iPhone 8 and X were announced at the same time.
Anybody who bought an 8, only to trade it in a month or so later to "upgrade" to the X is truly an idiot.

Or maybe Subby is.

I have an HTC that i've had for 2 years or so. I drop it constantly. I throw it across the room in the hopes that it will land on the couch where i'm headed. sometimes I miss. i drop stuff on it. a month ago i dropped something on it that was heavy and sharp enough to put a tear in the plastic screen protector. I used my pocket knife to carve a small hole out of the protector while it was still on the glass, so now there's just a little unprotected circle.
It's in a cheap $5 case, not an expensive otter/lifeproof

let me go right out and upgrade to that shiny new ithing...

The iPhone 5/S was Apple's last great product. iPhone SE is how they should've handled every ensuing iPhone.

They need to snap out of their "thinner is better!" obsession.

Also, I'd like to know who drops their phone 50+ times from a significant height onto a hard surface...

If you have butter fingers like that you may want to invest in a case, or maybe just shouldn't have a phone.

I do, and I did. A mil-spec case is good insurance, and when your phone is an out-of-date flagship it can be cheap insurance.

My wife replaced her iPhone 4 with an X, it is like someone from the future gave you their phone.
Of course I'm sure the other flagship phones are that good as well.
The 8 looks neat too.

Sorry I don't have anything inflammatory to say.

I only get a new phone when the old croaks. I got an iphone 7 when my iphone 4 finally gave up the ghost earlier this year.

Do you have tiny Trump-sized hands? It was only with the introduction of the iPhone 6 Plus that the iPhone was large enough to be comfortable for me to type on (I prefer a Blackberry style two thumb method rather than pecking with my index finger at a tiny keyboard like the SE has).

Apple did exactly the right thing, which was expand their customer base with larger screen sizes while still keeping the small form factors like the SE around for people with tiny hands.

Now not saying what you say is wrong, but you don't need it to be thinner or allow for a larger screen size.

Soon as I heard the X had an OLED display, I lost all interest. Every single LG/Samsung phone I've seen my friends carry all suffer from some degree of burn-in, especially the status bar and home/back/etc. button areas.

1)  I don't need thinner.  I'd rather have durable.
2)  I don't need integrated.  I'd rather have flexible.
3)  I don't need bezel-less.  I'd rather have a bigger (replaceable) battery.

My sweet spot occurred about 2 years ago-- Galaxy Note 4, more or less, though I wouldn't turn down more battery life.

For those of us who need a portable office, but can do so with a fast phone and not need a full tablet or laptop, a damn good phone with a large screen is a must.

The X is an awesome portable computing device. Its more than a phone.  Its my office.

I dont think I have taken two calls on my X since I got it, but I am on it all day.

I don't go around proudly whipping mine out as I'm not a Louis CK level jerk, but for me the iPad is a device that just makes sense.

Far be it from me to tell Apple what to do, but every iPhone user I know has a big ugly clunky case on it for protection. All that effort to make it thinner is wasted. It seems to me that adding a millimetre or two of durability would make for a much better product.

Eh, I agree with him. There isn't really such a thing as an iCultist anymore. Mostly, it's just people who have been in the Apple ecosystem for a long time, have enjoyed their experience, and bristle at the Android lunatics who shriek at them for being sheep in every tech thread.

The less-expensive LG phones (like the Stylo series) still have nice IPS LCD panels, or at least they did when I last shopped for a phone. I wouldn't have bought the Stylo 2 Plus if it had an OLED screen. While OLED may have a power consumption advantage, especially with dark screens, the Stylo's generous battery shrugs that off.

I'm not a fan of Apple's walled garden, but for someone less computer-savvy it may be a better choice. Too bad they have such a severe case of flagship-itis. Expensive phones are basically status symbols as far as I'm concerned. Spending $200 on a phone is bad enough, though that price range seems to be the price vs. performance sweet spot in Android-land.

I don't have any burnin on my Nexus 6P. That's a Samsung OLED panel.

From the Pixel 2 XL, LG seems to have the problem though.

Having an S6, S7, and S8, I can say that so far I've had ZERO burn in at all.    Wife has an S7 also, with no problems, and she's using it all the time.

I've had more issues with my ipads than anything else (getting crap between the LCD and digitiser due to no actual sealing around the edges between them.

I just went from a 4s to an X.  I liked the compactness of the 4, but the screen is pretty small and not great for web browsing on many sites.  The X is really nice and the face recognition unlock is great.  I know different people use their phones in different ways, but in all the years I've had a cellphone, I've dropped them a half dozen times.  If the X can hold up generally after 50 drops in a tumbling machine without a case, I think I'm good.

Yup... I beat the shiat out of my phones. Both out of clumsiness and due to the nature of my work. I've always had an otterbox commuter series case. I've had to replace cases a few times, but Otterbox just sends you a new one (as they should, given what they charge for the damn things) but I've never had to replace the phone because of a drop. I broke the screen on my Galaxy S3 once, but that was a really nasty drop on to rocks from up high. Repaired it myself, worked until I was ready to replace it. Haven't damaged an iPhone yet. I don't understand why you would carry a piece of glass, metal, plastic, and super tiny electronics costing several hundred dollars around in your pocket and NOT put it in some sort of case. Even a $5 silicone sleeve is far better than nothing.

Guess I just got lucky or something.

Shrug, and I haven't seen any bootloops on my 6P.

So I am hardly surprised if the press concentrates on the minority. "the Phone Works as Advertised" isn't as good a story after all.

Why should you? My 6 does all I need it to. When the battery goes, I might just replace it. If the phone ever bricks, the replacement phone will probably be another 6, or a droid. I ain't paying no $1k for no phone, Noonan.
