And until he can pay for the repair, he has to continue driving a car daubed with a racial epithet every day.

Cover it with duct tape until the word isn't recognizable?

Seriously, you work in education?

Jeremy Clarkson said he once took friends out in a convertible Ferrari , parked it with top down while they went to a restaurant for a meal. Came back to find that a large group of people had held "a hoicking contest" (Brit slang for deep phlegm spitting) as an expression of their admiration for the owner.

The delightful young scamps who live near Celtic Park offer that service to fans during matches for a nominal fee of £5. One day a man declined the kind offer as his rather large Alsatian was in the car and could watch it for him.

'Can your dog put out a fire, sir?' the child asked.

He paid.

On a Dodge Dart?

I bet he figured if he got body damage he'd just live with it. He never considered that he'd have to drive around with a n-bomb scratched onto the hood.

A 2015 Dodge Dart? I thought the last of those heaps went on the heap back in the 70's. Seriously, Mr. Teacher Person, buy a can of spray paint, file the claim, and pony-up.

In my opinion, lots of people set go fund me accounts for all kinds of useless crap, and a story like this proves no exception.Sure he rebuffed a bums request for change, but in essence isn't that what he's doing here? Working in education, I haven't met too many bright people doing that. I'm sure his insurance will cover it. Oh wait, he's not covered for vandalism?
I looked at Dodge Darts. Crappy construction, the vehicle probably depreciates faster than the cost for repair. Hard to believe they use so many Dodge parts in the Maserati Ghibli.

I can't even tell you the number of shows where I also tossed $5 to the homeless man who was "watching" cars in an empty lot. Even as a 16yr old kid, it seemed like giving him the money was a MUCH smarter move than taking chances on what he might do if I pissed him off and left him with my car for 3 hours.
Silly me. If I had been smarter and pissed off the unstable homeless men, I would have been qualified to be an academic adviser of some sort.

Guy sounds privileged to me.

Pay no attention to the pleas of a starving homeless person, in the middle of winter, whilst on your way to spend a few hundred dollars for a single meal?!?

I'm not saying that what the homeless person did was right. I'm just saying I can understand.

Could vinyl wrap it for about 40-50 bucks.    Or sand it down, prime, and spray-bomb it for about the same amount.  Won't look amazing, but better than the current state.

I sort of agree with the GoFundMe thing.    There's lots of good causes on there, but way too many people go running asking for cash when something happens, that could be fixed themselves half the time.    I'd rather put money towards people who NEED it, rather than someone who got their car keyed.

That's where I went, you can repaint an entire car with the most expensive car paint and completely replace the hood before doing that for less than 2400.  It's a Dodge Dart... even a really good paint job is basically just polishing a turd and I'm not even a car guy.

Florida doesn't really have winter... but I get your point.  The homeless guy is probably facing a much shiattier day to day existence than a guy worried about his auto insurance going up due to filing a claim.

Okay. A couple of hundred bucks between 4 of them? Whatever. Still kinda ugly to flat out ignore the homeless person. Not justifying the key-job, but illustrating the absurdity of the go-fund-me.

$2400 to repaint? He could get himself a sweet carbon fiber hood for $800-1200.

img.fark.netView Full Size

Or an unpainted fiberglass one for $600, or an aftermarket unpainted replacement for $400, or a stocker from a wrecker for even less, or find someone that does painting on the side on craigslist or a cheap place like macco for like $100 or get a farking buffer from the nearest hardware store and go to town on his own hood for $50..

Naa I'll driver around with a slur on my car, make a gofundme, and complain about it in the local paper instead, that's the ticket!

Ah, Sweden. That explains it. We generally don't have "starving" homeless folks here. Farked up and unhealthy for a variety of reasons, sure.

I'm not bothered by people using Gofundme for anything. It's asking, there's no harm done to anyone when someone makes a Gofundme page. You don't have to contribute anything, no one does. There is no objective list of worthy reasons to ask for help either. I'm sure every person who'd say he doesn't have a good reason also would, under the right circumstances, ask for help for a reason someone else would criticize as not being a good reason.

In defense of teachers (who I also find annoying-worst part of the field, honestly).

This guy is an academic advisor, not a teacher. Basically, a guy who sits at a desk and tells obvious things to university students about which courses to take. So... it's worse than you thought.

I'm driving a car with a cracked windshield, one window held in place with duct tape, and hundreds of scratches down all sides.  My kids are rough on cars.  Maybe I'll put up some sob story on GoFundMe about raising clumsy kids and get some money from suckers.  Or maybe, I'll just own up to my choices.

Sorry, dude.  You and your bros decided to get back at white privilege by shafting a white homeless dude.  Next time, try to remember that achievement and success is the best revenge on white people's bigotry, not kicking someone when they're down.  You don't make yourself look better by acting like Congressmen and Senators.

Man parking his car near Ibrox stadium in Glasgow. Small boy approaches.

Small Boy: Look after yer motor for a pound, mister?
Man: (shakes head, points to Alsatian on the back seat)
Small Boy: (to a friend, excitedly) Erchie! Look! It's a dug that can pit oot fires.
