Not nearly the earliest known use of Meme Face, but still an important historical example.

IIRC, the network wanted the kids but not the mom.  The kids refused to do it without Mom, so they hired a bunch of actors.  Also another case of Darren Stevens Syndrome, changing out the youngest boy.

on The Partridge Family the first actor playing youngest son was replaced because the child was totally out of control on the set and his parents weren't much help either.

I don't mind the song, though it's never been one of my favorites. But I can't stand the title. "The Rain, the Park, and Other Things"? That just sounds lazy, or like a working title and they never got around to thinking up a better one.

Locals, when I was another kid in bands around the area. (Pacific Palisades/Brentwood neighborhoods.) We played the same parties, lots of jams. Cool people, really good times. There was a bunch of talented musicians that grew up together there and then, many went on to make it a career. I hung in until I hit 30, and I've got some great halcyon-days memories.

As did I and about a million other similarly aged kids.

Unfortunately, the father was their manager, and not only did he lose all their money in various business schemes,   not did he also fire the one son, who happened to be the best singer and musician in the band for  *gasp* smoking a joint, he also was a sick fark who molested little Susan for a very long time..   There's a great documentary about them, FAMILY BAND on Netflix still, I think.

One band, I am glad is making a few bucks on the nostalgia circuit...

The 'sills were kind decent pop band, somewhere between the Monkees and the 1910 Fruitgum Company.
In retrospect, the songs were well written, the harmonies intact, and damn, those were some catchy tunes.

The Family Band, the Cowsills Story is an excellent documentary. Dad comes off worse than Murray Wilson.
And Murray was quite the scumbag.

More like the Osmonds, I'd say. Hansen would be a later equivalent.

If you are interested in the story of the Cowsills (who had three Top 10 hits, as I recall - "The Rain,...," "Indian Lake," and "Hair"), do watch the documentary "Family Band" on Amazon Prime that some others have mentioned.  It's one of the saddest stories of a family I can recall.  Billy, the very talented older kid who was their backbone, was kicked out by the father, and Billy went on to die from drug-related illnesses (I seem to recall he had issues with heroin).  Barry (the great bass player and all-around likable guy, from what I can tell) died during the Katrina flood.  Rich, one brother who was not allowed in the band by the father, developed a heroin addiction during Vietnam, and I don't think he's ever quite gotten things back on track.

The things that could have been for this group had it not been for their father...They had a ten-show contract with Ed Sullivan that was canceled after two appearances because of the father's behavior.  Their father fired their fantastic producer, Artie Kornfeld, who co-wrote "The Rain..."  He allegedly molested Susan.  He beat up the boys repeatedly (being careful not to hit their faces, which would still show when they performed).

A few of the kids seem to have come to peace with things (and apparently even had a modest amount of reconciliation with their father before he died).  Susan is married and lives in New Orleans, where she heads her own band.  John (their drummer) has been touring with the Beach Boys.  I believe that Bob is in the medical devices industry and also performs with his own band.  Paul continues to perform as part of the family band, as I recall.  But it really is a tragic family story overall.

I had no idea that anyone else in Farkland knew who "Mouse and the Traps" were.  When I was about 11 years old, a line from that song "Sometimes You Just Can't Win" ("false-hearted lover and a fair-weather friend") got stuck in my subconscious, and it took me about 40 years to identify the song it came from.

Never watched the Partridge Family as I was a Cowsills fan and had respect for the real thing. The Partridges were merely a phony baloney Hollywood confection.
