I seem to recall you posting a pic of your Ingress tools a while back. I made it to LVL11, then I couldn't take it anymore. The agents in my area were just the worst.

A front page Ingress thread?  Don't mind if I do!

If you liked the idea behind Pokemon Go but found the gameplay lacking, check out Ingress.  A lot more depth to the game.  Also an excellent way to learn about your city and find your way around.  It's also a lot more friendly to bikers (unless they cracked down on that too.)

Dunno about Prime running on the Pokemon Go engine - that thing needs a lot more work.  For all the crap Niantic gets, the Ingress engine itself was getting to be decent.

That was the main issue I had with it as well. I liked the game, but damn were those guys obnoxious.

Tried playing ingress for a few days, and went to a few enemy controlled locations. As a new player, there is literally nothing useful you can do. You use all your stuff to do %0.0001 damage to a low level outpost, scraping off a few measly xp and useless items, then try to regain energy so you can do a tiny bit more, but you inevitably run out of hp or whatever and have to wait to try again tomorrow... When the outpost is healed back up to %100.
To call it a boring grind is a gross understatement. It's also a huge data drain, and thus unplayable unless you have an unlimited plan. I think it took about four days for me to decide it was an utter waste of time and storage space.

As someone who started in pogo and then moved to ingress after completing my pokedex, I must say that ingress is a refreshing change of pace. It loads quickly, sips battery compared to pogo, and doesn't mess with my mp3 music volume.  Moving ingress onto the pogo platform is a mistake.

Back in 2011, I worked for a very tiny game company that made iPhone games.

I came up with a couple of "augmented reality" games before they started calling them that - one was an "aliens versus aliens on Earth" game that used real-world locations, pinging you when the other team was nearby, triggering game combat.

The company ran out of money before we even seriously started programming on it, though. Would have been fun.

We also had one game that used the camera image as a game background, overlaying the arcade game on the real world. The idea was that we'd eventually bounce targets off real-world items using edge detection.

Its a bit like pogo in that a newbie can't do anything to a levelled enemy gym. Grind up a bit then try. You're going to want to be level 5 before you even try to take a low-level enemy gym that is above 25% life (that doesn't have any shields up).

Best ways for a newbie to score are glyph hacking (long press the Hack button and play the minigame where you repeat the patterns back) placing the first resonator on an empty portal (huge bonus,) and placing the eighth and final resonator on a portal (decent bonus.)  Linking and fielding are great too if you have a clear area.

Don't despair if you're buried under the opposing color either.  That's actually a very good situation for you.  You can still hack/glyph hack the crap out of those portals (and get a nice point bonus for doing so.)  You might also score some nice higher level gear in the process.

We've got guardian hunters in our area too. But honestly it's worth it when you finally have that plan come together perfectly. Finally got my Onyx a couple weeks ago (after previous ones had been nuked at 148) in the burnt down ruins of what was once the Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis.

It's improvements like this they need to make, not UI or big gameplay changes.  That said, things are getting a bit stale so I'm hopeful. Worst case scenario, I quit playing and pay more attention to real life. *checks Twitter* Never mind, sweet lord Niantic, don't screw this up.

About 80% of that is untrue.   You can level up decently fast early on, to about 5-6, and at that point you can do decent damage to mid level and lower portals, and help out your team.

The power bar isn't like a normal mobile game with limited daily 'energy'.  You replenish it mostly by using Power Cubes you get from hacking, or just walking around.

Ingress is the least pay to win game out there.  I'm impressed by how they handle it.

It's also great fun to collect mission badges when you visit places.   Plus it gets me walking around :P

I didn't think the grind was too bad until maybe level 12. Was barely noticeable until maybe level 8, I'm not sure people struggling to get at lead that far knew how to play. And them I think I got to maybe 15? I won't swear to it, passed 10 was fairly steep, and I recall hitting 14, but I think I made 15 before Pokemon took all my fellow enlightened friends in the area, and I had no one to link with.

My favorite thing about Ingress is the absolutely insane crap we have done in and for the game.

Build a farm in a blizzard? No problem.
Play an anomaly in sub zero wind chills with 1500 other idiots? I'm in!
Get up at 0530 and meet with the Secret Service, FBI, and National Park service to explain why 5000 goofballs were about to descend upon DC wearing blue and green, waving flags, and carrying backpacks with more wires and batteries and comms equipment than the DC Metro police? Sure Mr Hanke, I'll do that!
Be a team lead in ATL for an anomaly on a college campus that had no idea we were coming? Yuuup.
Spend 10 hours hiking the tOSU campus in the rain with a friend to complete a mission banner? We've made worse decisions.. let's go!
