Without Steve Jobs around to yell at everybody about how they're doing it all wrong, they're doing it all wrong.

What about the day Apple brought out a phone and a laptop that you can't connect without using an adapter dongle...

They're farking up so badly for the same reason that many others fark up badly. It's the obsession with getting the feature count for each new version as high as possible. This means less time spent on QA as well as overworked developers that start cutting corners.

Absolutely on point. Apple just happens to be the most visible because they're selling popular consumer products.

This is the downfall many do not learn from.  Features, features, features.

Features = increased probability for bugs.

I thought Apple was all about simplicity, but I really haven't touched an iDevice in forever, so I don't know how things are.  I am merely used to PCs and the like as I grew up with them since 1987.  I'm not religious about anything.  I always admired Apple (from afar) for being very simple and easy to use, from what I have always been told.  And very high quality in terms of minimal bug count and chances of shiat farking up.

I don't know... they have like quite a few billions of dollars just sitting around... you'd think they'd hire some more QA people?

Two Words:  Tim and Cook.

He's an operations guy, not a visionary.  I also think they're spending too much time and focus on the new campus instead of their product line.

They moved into that giant open office. Everyone is rage focusing on ignoring all conversations and movement within 40 ft while they try not to feel the eyes of everyone in the room on them. It takes a toll on your focus and limits what you can do.

Then when I plug it in and the screen comes back up, it will say I have 25+% power.

It's a really fun game to play with. Thanks, Apple. You farknuts!

WP 8.1 just worked. It was the best phone OS available.

Steve Jobs was a controlling narcissistic asshole. I would not be surprised if his corpse was pleasantly stationary as he sees his company collapse without him. Apple's secondary purpose was to be a company, it's primary purpose was to be an altar to the cult of Jobs.

Seriously- where was Job's protege? Who did he train to take over for when he was gone? Who was supposed to replace him? Nobody. Plenty of people said back at day one that Tim Cook wasn't going to be the visionary product leader that Jobs was.

I don't mean to be too hard on the guy, but Apple was something that Jobs did for himself. The fact that the richest and most influential consumer technology company on earth is foundering without him is something that he would no doubt be happy about. If Apple goes down then he becomes a legendary figure who rescued Apple and propelled it to tremendous heights. If Apple succeeds and grows without him then he's shown to be just another business leader at the head of an exceptionally good company.

Not for nothing, but your analogy sucks because of the weird thing about horses supposedly eating horse shiat.

After Steve Jobs died they decided to focus entirely on streamlining the production process by expanding the business vertically rather than horizontally, along with their emphasis on extreme profitability and expanding cash reserves. Basically they went from a company that tried to streamline lots of different types of products to one that only had a few products whom they streamlined the guts. The upside is huge stock worth, the downside to this is that they really haven't been innovators in the world of electronics since Jobs died. The other downside is that the software side of Apple has been neglected ever since Ives took over, they feel unfocused and increasingly buggy. Their desktops have also been largely neglected, along with an emphasis on streamlining laptops to the point of reduced functionality. Then you have general design which feels entirely driven by hardware and not on ease of use. Basically they're trying to become Samsung in that regard.

The other day I got to thinking and I realized that Sony has seriously dropped the ball recently.  One of the biggest things for smartphones is the camera and Sony makes some of the best DSLR sensors.  Why hasn't Sony taken one of their 24MP DSLR sensors and put that on a phone with their E Mount used in their mirrorless and dslr cameras?  I would LOVE a smartphone with an actual DSLR camera that had interchangable lenses.

Ah, a riff on the old anything's a dildo line.

Honestly you're not wrong, the open office isn't inherently limiting. As much as I like to pick on the concept, it isn't bad for everyone. I think the cons far outwiegh the pros for software development. It certainly does for how I prefer to develop because it raises barriers to local testing.

That being said Apple transitioned to an open office during this release cycle. And the move itself and subsequent change in environment (even if senior devs didn't leave) could well explain why there are more bugs in this release.

well what more can they do?  They're just adding worthless features like facial recognition that's less secure than a traditional password and it's not like the older models don't do a decent job at checking emails, texting, and taking pictures.  They're just releasing new product to release new product.

Yeah, we have the same problem in my house. I literally have done nothing with my phone today but answer two texts and check to see what time the Eagles game is. It was fully charged at 8am. It's 11:30am, I looked at the phone 3 times, and it's at 80%. It's going to be a hard-wrired phone by the end of the year, at this rate. (Of course, we both have 6 and 6S, respectively, so I suspect this may not be entirely an unintentional side effect of the update.)

I looked over the notes of iOS 11.2. I was happy to see the keyboard delay was addressed. My friend has been so bugged by it.

I love my iPhone. I really do but the issues of iOS 11 and Apple's love for having the thinnest everything has turned me off as of late. I'm just going to slap an otter box on it and sometimes a headphone jack is needed.

I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon from my iPhone 6

For what it's worth this was happening with my 6 plus and replaced tha battery and now everything is fine. The 6s has a recall for battery issues so that may be a solution.

Had to get the itouch board soldered too. Now works as new. I'd switch to Android but my entire family has iMessage chats going all the time so that won't work.

Interesting.

I've worked in an open office, and it has to be distracting when you're coding.  I need to be sealed off from the world to get into a coding groove.

The iPhone has stayed about the same thinness since the 5.  In fact the X is thicker than the 5.

Steve Jobs was Thomas Edison.  He knew that the real secret to success is to find some neat idea that some little guy came up with, clean up the rough edges, and then say it was your idea all along.  Apple currently has this insane belief that they need to come up with their own ideas.
