Don't buy it, and they'll stop doing it. If people buy it, the stores will continue selling it. Simple economics.

Not me, I'll have plenty of coal to keep my house nice and toasty this winter, you stupid farking cow.

We had an upside down xmas tree at my high school. Until somebody complained that it was sacrilegious.

Really? Just put your artificial tree together backwards and accomplish the same.

Some people get drunk and knock over trees, then claim the sideways tree is the new thing

They're actually covert feline surveillance outposts disguised as trees. They also provide a superior platform to launch stealth attacks from. Once surveillance activities have ceased the feline can retreat to the safety of the cardboard bunker the tree came in.

Been meaning to install the ceiling hanger for my bicycle for years.  If I haven't gotten around to that, I probably won't bother hanging a Christmas tree, either.

Honestly, I just buy a wreath or two as I like the scent and they don't take up much room in my smallish house.

Come to think of it, hanging the tree would keep the dog from peeing on it.

Instead of calling Santa, the upside down trees summon Krampus. Either the store is setting up some fools as human sacrifices for the anti-Claus or people are knowingly buying these as a way to invite the sweet release of death into their homes.

I live in Hungary - I've never seen this. They say it is Slavic so maybe that is why but I spend a decent amount of time in surrounding countries and I've never seen this there either.

If you drank as much booze as those people appear to you'd be putting trees in upside down, too.

OH NO IT'S A TREENADO

2017-11-29 09:48:59 AM
.....and late that night, when all the children were snug in their beds and the puppies nuzzled the kittens by the fire, a soft clatter could be heard.  And then a loud "whooshing" sound that grew in intensity as the clatter became a banging and crashing chaos as debris pelted the side of the house.  The windows blew out.  The roof lifted off the house and the children clung to their bedposts as an incredible sucking force picked up the puppies and kittens, flinging them into the sky.  The Christmas Tornado had arrived.

Back in the 70s, one of the girls in my school had an upside-down Christmas tree every year. Her father had a special frame made to hang it by the bay window in their house.

Yeah but what if 1/3 of the people buy it, and 1/3 of the people complain about it, and 1/3 of the people just don't give a damn.  Do they keep doing it then?

Are we talking about real people? Or internet people? Internet people complain about everything and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Had one for 10+ years so I'm getting a kick out of.....

Classic/ordinary ornaments go on the regular tree, and the fun/wtf ornaments go on the upside down tree. Friends go out of their way to find the most obnoxious, yet well done, ornaments. A merman and mermaid, both wearing sunglasses, arrived yesterday.

My mom's office had one back then, too.  Artificial tree hung upside down from the ceiling..

I can think of a couple:
1) Less "fluff" down near the floor, so you don't lose quite so much floor space (depending on design, may even be harder for animals to mess with it too)
2) Easier to decorate since you don't have to reach up AND over the lower branches and there's plenty of room for larger ornaments to hang down
