Welcome to Farktography!

This Week's Theme: "Dream a Little Dream"

: Use one of your photographs and the Deep Dream Generator to create something dreamy or artistic. This departs from the rules we normally follow, so go wild! If you use a texture of your own, it must also be your own photo. Please provide a link to your original photo for comparison to your entry.

We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission rules, including but not limited to the following:
- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

Please note:
The overarching ideal behind Farktography is that image corrections are acceptable, while adding or removing elements in the image (e.g. removing telephone poles, adding Elvis) is not acceptable. Levels, curves, contrast, saturation, crop, and black-and-white conversion tools may be used judiciously, but not to cartoonish or unrealistic extremes. Avoid applying artistic filters for the purpose of mimicking film, tilt-shift, toy camera, etc type effects. HDR and panorama stitching either in-camera or in post processing are not allowed unless specified for a particular theme (true multiple exposures done in-camera are acceptable, however). See the rules for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the Farktography Forums.

Legal: All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.
- Drop by the Farktography Forum on Fark (new window) or (for chatting, critique, techtalk and so on)
- Stats can be found here.

For this image, I started with a base image of a tufa formation on a beach. I applied the following images in series. First a detail from a copper still at St. George's Distillery, then a photo of fish from a local aquarium, and finally a neon sculpture in Las Vegas.

And here's a link to a slightly bigger version of the image the Deep Dream generator came up with.

This creepy image started with an innocent looking rocky beach scene, and evolved as a series of images were applied. First was an odd looking tropical flower, then some black and white lichen, a school of sardines, detail from a chollo cactus flower, then a fish head someone mounted on a fence post, some seed pods from a flax plant in my yard, followed by a cluster of barnacles, and finally a tufa formation on a beach cliff.

There's a slightly bigger version of the image the Deep Dream generator made too.

A rare deep dream - level 6 or approximately 60 iterations of this image (used in contest #464 Psychadelics).  I used the default setting on the deep dream generator.

The base image for this Deep Dream result is a photo of waves breaking on rocks on the Pacific coast.

A series of photos were add one layer at a time. The initial layer was a detailed image of a Christmas Cactus flower, followed by a leaves of an ice-plant, a shot of a kelp frond floating on the surface of the Pacific, then a tufa formation on a beach cliffside, a silhouette of reeds, then a tropical flower, and finally a photo of clouds in the sky.

There's a bigger version of the resulting Deep Dream image as well.

The base image is here, masks from Pompeii when an exhibit of its artifacts were at OMSI.
I mixed it with this sunset from Haystack Reservoir in Central Oregon.

The base is a shot from Seaside Beach on the Oregon Coast, mixed with a shot of one of the Tillicum Crossing's supports in downtown Portland.

So, I went back this evening, and not being so tired helped me figure out the controls that much better.  So, here is one more:

This is the original base image:

And I uploaded all the various pics that I used in playing with it to my Flickr.  For this last one every picture that is not a Deep Dream creating was used as a layer in the "Deep Dream" setting, with the controls set to Low.

I call this one "Down on the Ground."

It's a mashup of pictures taken out of airplane windows using my iPad while on (too many) work trips.  It's a combination of this original of a Swiss Air A330 (on the ground in Geneva, out the window of a UA 777), mountains in Australiaout the window of a Virgin Australia 737, sunrise over DCA (out the window of a random UA single aisle), my neighborhood in Arlington VA (out the window of a different UA RJ, on my way...somewhere?), the airport in Beijing(out the window of a UA 777), and the area west of the Grand Canyon (out the window of a UA 737-900 outbound from LAS).

I mashed it up a few steps past that, but it got too muddy.  So here you go.  Fun contest.

My buddy Lars came to visit with a top flower of his latest grow.

Your argument is invalid: His dreadlocks are hedgehogs who lasso-hunt hummingbirds. (BONUS: random cameo of President Shiatgibbon in the top right of the pic.)
