She is beautiful.

"Hey kids, come over a little closer to your granny Danica. Now back in my day, we didn't have these newfangled VR full immersion racing rigs, we raced the real thing. And the men, well let me tell you the men were pretty aggressive with me back in those days."

"Grandpa says you were a hack."
"Yeah he says you had more crashes than top twenty finishes."
"He says you had some great cars but you couldn't drive them."
"But you had a smoking hot body."

"Oh really. It seems Grandpa says a lot of things behind my back, now doesn't he."

"He'd probably say that's the first time you've had someone behind your back."
"Oh she angry. Granny's angry! Grandpa warned us about her temper."

Why does everything have to be so competitive? Can't they all just be out there having a good time?

That was an odd little video clip of her.  Even retiring she comes across as insincere.  Guess I may just be jaded on Danica things so maybe it's just me.  I know it's not her fault.

It's NASCAR.  Success is not measured in wins, but in dollars.

I hope you're not an Indy or F1 snob saying that, because they were doing obvious pay for play drivers before NASCAR.

Danica Patrick went to Victory Lane twice this year in NASCAR. You people goof on her for a lack of wins, but that's two more trips to Vixtory Lane than any of you naysayers have.

No, I like my sports to be, you know, sports.

NASCAR is about to be without any major stars. Patrick may be a foil for some, but she has mainstream appeal.

Christy McMurray has been in victory lane more times and has won just as many NASCAR races as Danica.  There are sponsors who have been in Victory Lane multiple times.  Being there without having actually won anything really doesn't mean anything.

Can't see it. After letting that radio-silenced retard Menard buy his way into NASCAR, I didn't believe I was able to care about that sport. But he did. I hope for his car to wreck every time I see his name pop-up.

But I consider myself a fan of wrecks, not driving, because oval tracks don't tickle my interest. F1 is an enjoyable task for laundry day.

Menard might had a sponsor in his pocket, but he's won twice - including a Brickyard 400.

Granted she's not the most ultimately talented driver who ever sat behind a wheel. But she has by all accounts done her very best with what she has with both her on the track skills and off track supporting her sponsors and teammates.

By and large she's done it with class and style even in the face of a steady stream of jackasses braying their stupidity at her.

If you expect more than that from a driver- well Fark you and the POS you drove in here on.

Yeah don't knock Menard.  He belongs in the top series.  He is there to win, he just doesn't have the skills 20-some other drivers do.  But that's still saying quite a bit.  As well I think Danica is too.  And I think if she ran for 5-10 more years she'd have won 1 or 2 races.  Which again, may not seem like much- but it is still the top of the sport we're talking about here.

Now there are probably 10-15, maybe more, drivers who do not give a crap about winning that are clogging up the lanes every week.  Just to take home 30th place money and whatever money they get from their low-level sponsors- which is all probably more than my salary.  But they are not there to win, and they bother me.

I'm torn on this.  Chase Elliot, Kyle Larson, Martin Truex, Jr. are becoming stars.  Jimmie Johnson is still the guy everyone loves to hate, along with Kyle Busch.

The major losses over the last 2 years are Dale Jr. and Gordon.  They had cross-sport appeal, big time.

I don't know- of the ones I mentioned above- can they (eventually) be considered cross-sport stars?

Nah, it's 'cuz the misogynist sponsors don't wanna sponsor a woman.

/Matt Kenseth is retiring too? Yeah, same reason.

Well, I think she was wonderful. Stuck up for herself in Indy, and even in NASCAR to run mid-pack consistently is no mean feat. She deserved more, but then a lot of drivers do. Perhaps she was not the fastest, but she was definitely one of the best at bringing attention to the sport. Could have done without the overtly 'sexy' pics, she is dazzling in a racing suit.  The sport will be less colourful without her.

NASCAR has been losing a lot of well known drivers the last few years.  Not good for business.

Go back and reread the article. Nearly all the positive comments made were backhanded compliments. Sexism is alive and well. :/

Oh really?

Usually when a backmarker retires, it's a two sentence blurb on Jayski, not a huge article.

Brian Scott didn't get this kind of fanfare, and he actually won a race in the top three series, and had a second place finish in Cup.

So let's not go whining "OH, EVERYTHING'S SEXIST" when the only reason she's getting ANY attention at all is because she's a woman.

There are many more women drivers in racing she has experience with karting, Indy, NASCAR and Danica is one of the bigger reasons why. She has the skill set, connections and knowledge to be a mentor (as a business) to help bring them to the top levels of racing

If that was your car perhaps you wouldn't have loaned it on terms to SI for photo shoots, which would be your prerogative. As for the rest, you seem to have some interesting fantasies, do you own anything you wish you could have leased out?
