Registration ensues:

Iverson's Rolls ticketed at airport

Alan Iverson might have had a bum knee, but cops say he still isn't allowed to park his $320,000 Rolls in a handicapped parking spot.

The 76ers guard, who has been in trouble before for parking in handicapped spaces, was ticketed earlier this week after police said he parked his black Rolls-Royce Phantom in a handicapped slot in Garage A at Philadelphia International Airport. The fines totaled at least $300, police said.

He picked up the car about 11 o'clock last night, according to an airport police officer.

"I saw him walk up to the car and drive away. He had his posse with him," the officer said.

Airport spokesman Mark Pesce would not comment.

In 1999, an official at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Sixers' practice site, said he had been aware of an occasion when Iverson had parked in a handicapped spot and moved the car when asked.

At that time, then-team president Pat Croce recalled lecturing Iverson about another instance of parking in a handicapped spot.

"I said, 'I hope to God you never have an injury where you have to use that spot,' " Croce said.

Serves the little twerp right.

"He had his posse with him," the officer said.

Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about parking. We're talking about parking man. We're talking about parking. We're talking about parking. We're not talking about speeding. We're talking about parking. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about parking right now.

Since when does having rolls warrant a ticket? Obesity is not a crime.

I hate to say this, but I'm supposed to care Why? I mean, come on, people park in handicapped spots all the time, and now that some basketball player parks in one makes the news? Who cares, I sure don't.

I used a handicap parking thing when I broke my foot and walked on crutches. It was sweet.

Well, except for the part about having the broken foot.

What kind of idiot drives and leaves a $320,000 car to an airport parking lot? Especially Philadelphia Airport.

Wow, jbc's comment was brilliant!

All I can say is that AI seems mentally handicapped enough for a handicapped parking spot...
2004-06-03 12:26:32 PM
Iverson's expected response

"If I can't park, I can't park. If I'm hurt, I'm hurt. It's not about that. It's easy to sum it up when you talk about parking. I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're in here talking about parking. Not a game, we're talking about parking. How silly is that? I know I'm supposed to be there. I know I'm supposed to lead by example. I know that. I know it's important, but we're talking about parking. ... How the hell can I make my teammates better by parking? They are supposed to be used to playing with me anyway. So my game is going to deteriorate if I don't park with those guys?"

Hopefully, he won't be in Philly long enough to park in another handicap space. Hello Denver!
2004-06-03 12:28:42 PM
Ok, I don't like AI, but this is news? Come on now people, he has done much worse than this. If this was the worst thing he had done, I would be one of his biggest fans.

So what's worse: parking in a handicapped spot or doing 90+ on the PA Turnpike?

"A, S-S, H-O, L-E!"

I'm constantly getting in fights with handicapped people. They park in the regular spots and I run up to them and yell "park up there close to the building where you belong you jackass".

LessO2 Wrote: What kind of idiot drives and leaves a $320,000 car to an airport parking lot? Especially Philadelphia Airport.

Well, for $300 in fines, you get to park close, in a nice large spot where nobody will open their door into you car, where it's in easy view of the cops, who will be watching for your return to make sure you get your ticket(s). Sounds like one hell of a deal to me, especially for someone who can afford a $320,000 car.

I forget what country it is, but I remember reading about a place where they base your speeding tickets on your income. I don't know if they do it with parking tickets as well, but it sounds like a great idea to me. If the parking ticket cost you a week's pay, you'd see a heck of a lot more compliance.
2004-06-03 12:32:04 PM
So, I guess he uses the handicap stalls to take a sheyyyit too. Someone needs to go Tanya Harding on his punk-a55.
2004-06-03 12:32:26 PM
you guys are talking as if its alright to park in handicapped places. It's not. They are there for a reason. A friend of mine has only 19% breathing capacity with her lungs... she has to have a device on her that lets her breath that 19%. If some unhandicapped asshole parked in a handicapped spot, making her walk from the other side of the parking lot, I'd smash his windows in.

He's a farking athlete.... he has a job where he is in top physical condition... he's the LAST person who should be taking that spot... It's such an asshole thing to do... He's a guy whose job it is to run and jump and be active... and yet he's so lazy that he steals parking spots from disabled people? Don't defend him... he deserved that fine.

mryoop789, did you catch teh crazy from brap today?

Speaking ebonics IS a sign of being handicapped.

2004-06-03 12:36:05 PM
I am shocked! Well, not that shocked. I'm surprised he didn't choke a handicapped person to get that space. Or did he...?
2004-06-03 12:36:37 PM
i'm surprised he doesn't have handicapped tags. i always see perfectly healthy football players with them here at Va Tech.
2004-06-03 12:37:25 PM

If only handicapped people used handicapped parking we could reduce the number of handicapp spaces needed by 50%
2004-06-03 12:40:31 PM
Boycot professional sports.
I am 100% serious.
2004-06-03 12:41:44 PM

Not only do I park in handicapped spaces all the time, I also make sure to smack any actual handicapped people I see. I smack them hard.

So what?

I always drive towing a trailer just so that I can take up four handicapped parking spots at once. And some times I take the tags off of real handicapped people's cars so they get towed by the man.

It all goes back the old argument that if you are driving, you are not really handicapped.
2004-06-03 12:43:31 PM
Not to be overly critical, but I hope he dies.
2004-06-03 12:43:37 PM
tbase has it right

Start basing the fine amount by income. $300, are you kidding me? He makes more than that in the time it takes to walk into the arena on gameday.

/not bitter
