Better that a piece of cardboard covered in greasy cheese that's been walked over by rats and roaches? Yeah, I agree.

While I like deep dish, you can also get superior thin crust in Chicago vs. New York.....

I was partial to Villa Palermo for the thin crust, and My Pi for Chicago Style, and sometimes the Edwardo's up on Howard St. (now gone).  But I'll take a greasy Brooklyn slice over all of those any day of the week.  The dough is just better, and they actually hand toss in New York, even for the $.99 slices.

"It's like salisbury steak vs. actual steak. Sorry."

See, now that's perfect.  That's exactly the difference between pizza in NYC and pizza in Chicago.

If you're used to Philly steaks all your life, and you've only ever encountered a Philly steak when ordering a "steak," you'd see a real steak and think "now that's just a big gross slab of solid beef, like some kind of congealed manhole cover of solid animal casserole.

When they cut the slices small like that, I never fill up.

Is it not possible to like both? Pizza is pizza, and it's all pretty awesome.

Except for pineapple, which I find offensive. Just a waste of a perfectly good pizza AND a waste of perfectly good pineapple.

I'm glad this is finally settled.

So why did this guy come to live and work in New York? Our clean streets and low cost of living?

2017-11-14 10:10:26 PM
As a provincial NYer, "NY-style pizza" is internetese for a Neapolitan ("plain") slice. Other NY-style slices:
Sicilian: square, pan, thick
Grandma: thin, square, garlicky tomato sauce, basil, lots of olive oil
Margherita: thin, round, fresh mozerella and basil
White: thin, round, no tomato sauce, ricotta and mozzella
Etc.

Needs more pineapple and grapes.

Haven't tried Pequod yet. So far my favorites in Chicago are Giordano's and Lou Malnati's.

Sadly, I don't foresee many trips to the Windy City since my Sister and her family moved back to the West Coast. Which also sadly means no Al's Italian Beefs as well.

Everyone knows the best pizza comes from Nebraska.  You haven't lived until you've had a real Omaha slice.  It's way better than that garbage they call pizza in Tulsa.

Here is what made Chicago pizza:
When I was young, Chicago was full of young women from Wisconsin and lower and upper Dakota. They were blond, slender, and naive. When you bought them some pizza, they were so thrilled to be getting an exotic treat that their blue eyes filled with tears. Now you know the rest of the story.

Sorry, but Chicago Pizza is better than New York Pizza. I love nothing more than to drink an ice cold Budweiser, the universally agreed-upon best beer with my Chicago-style deep dish pizza. Usually while I'm preparing to barbeque some chicken on the grill.

Nothing complements a proper pizza pie like an American, lightly-hopped lager.

That place in Dannebrog has pizza to kill for, which is why a town of  about 19 people has a restaurant you need reservations to get a seat.
