Fair enough.  Obviously I'd seen you riffing on Derp Contact's post, but edmo's post (and TFA) had a much more extreme example of the "Cop Math" trope.

Crack

/Not even once!

It was not immediately known what street value the cocaine might be or if it was rendered worthless and waterlogged by its journey over the sea as the reported size of the block has been revised downward several times.

I haven't heard the street value of coke in a very long time but in the 80's I heard you could buy all you wanted for $10,000/kilo. I always laugh at the cop math when they find a pound of (insert drug name) and it is worth 20 or more times what it is actually worth.

I'm thinking a smuggling boat or plane sank somewhere out there, maybe rough seas compromised a boat hull, maybe a plane stalls and crashes.  More packages will wash ashore, maybe a body or two.

Or... a fight broke out and someone fell away dead, with pocketfuls of cargo.

Either way, something bad happened. Hundreds (thousands?) of dollars of illicit drugs don't just fall off a boat or plane, right?

Maybe it's my OCD. Maybe it's my un-diagnosed aspergers.  You have to "process" the powder, or in this case high density powder before it is such.  And motherfarker.  There is a difference between FB and crack.

The one and only redeeming quality Florida had when I lived there was that there were lots of bikinis and in my experience it was trivially easy to get laid there because there wasn't shiat else to do but get bit by mosquitoes, do meth, and fark. You'd think a surplus of decent looking, easy women would mean I would never want to leave.... but it wasn't enough. Florida still sucks.

They do if someone trafficking the coke notices any Coast Guard presence.

Says a lot about a state when it has slang for floating bales of drugs or drug monies.  And not obscure street jargon or hipster lingo either.  EVERYBODY here knows what a square grouper is.  EVERYBODY!

Back in the Medellin Cartel's heyday, they used the Carribean coast of Nicaragua as a transporation/logistics hub.  If they were chased they just dumped cargo overboard like it was nothing.  The local fishermen used to find so many kilos in the water they called it caching a "white lobster".
