A great rock band would never put out a piece of shiat like Hotel California.

New Kid in Town isn't by Little Feat, the Allman Brothers, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Byrds.....
I don't see it listed as a song by any of the top 25 American Bands of any decade in American history, Subby.

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers where together in 1976?

Just saw the Eagles in the past month, first time I saw them live. I'm not the biggest fan of theirs, but that was a fantastic show. Deacon Frey fits in like he was born into the role. Kid has charisma in spades.

That's funny. Van Halen didn't put out their first record until 1978. Maybe it was recorded at the Pasadena Civic Center. Lot of bootlegs from that venue.

Now that's just farking ridiculous.

Subby got it right. And it's not close.

I don't know about the best rock band, but Don Felder's slide work on the studio version of Good Day in Hell (On the Border), is farking epic*. Never cared as much for the live versions.

*that's the tune that got him the gig.

Whether you like the music or not, if you can't see the talent of The Eagles you're a moran.

I liked Hotel California the first 4,582,694 times I heard it. Seems like the only Eagles song that gets played on the oldies stations.

I don't wanna hear it.

Van Halen wasn't even the best band of their time,  or even close. Very good, i'll grant you but I saw them 3 times back in the 70's and they didn't compare to others.

Solo Sammy in his Red Rocker days opened the Texas jam in 78 and blew everyone away, including Van Halen.

The only Eagles album I ever considered better than ok was On The Border.  It's great

I grew up in Philadelphia.
As a young lad, it always confused me when Midnight Special or Don Kirschner would announce that their special guests that night would be "The Eagles."

You misspelled "Life in the Fast Lane." That is the true overplayed-into-oblivion turd of AOR.

Fun Fact: Technically, California wasn't even part of the United States until 1985 and the release that year of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Freaky Styley. I bet you didn't even know they were from California! Hahahaha - who knew?!

The spacing of the words in the headline and my internet-lexia made me think this was an article about Kid Rock.

I don't think the Grateful Dead ever did that tune... thank God.

2017-11-10 09:02:17 AM
Terrific song. I love the big major chord on "around" in last line of the last verse.... "he's holding her and you're still around....."

2017-11-10 09:15:55 AM
The Eagles were just another crap garage band that played a few dives but never made it big...Wait...Barry!  What the hell did you do this time?

/actually like the Eagles, I make my wife shut up every time Witchy Woman is on the radio...Desperado will always be Brett's song

The Dandy Warhols have never covered "New Kid In Town," and I'd stop listening to them if they ever did.

Unless they did it ironically, of course....

The reason why there isn't a music tab in a nutshell.

To me, the Eagles were one of those bands that you always kept one of their CD's around for the women. Almost every woman I've known has just loved the Eagles, while the guys, notsomuch. U2 is another, but I do find there are some guys who do like them as well. The Eagles, not really. Although I did see a stripper do an amazing routine to Hotel California and since then can't really hate that song.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has music just for women.

Quick, name an Eagles song other than Hotel California. Did it take you more than two seconds? If not, now try and name 2 or 3 more. Any band who only has a few good songs at most does not make them good, no matter how popular those songs are.

I think subby meant America's most overrated band, possibly the most overrated band on planet Earth.

The sound on that recording is amazing -- crystal clear and can hear every instrument and voice.

You may now return to listening to Spa on Sirius/XM.

Saw the Eagles (free ticket) about 10ish years ago. They played a few of Joe's non-Eagles songs. Funk#49 and Rocky Mountain Way, being among them.

America's Greatest Rock Band? Simple answer: the Ramones.

Will also accept the Butthole Surfers or Blue Oyster Cult.
