Why are they closing?

Did the area get more dangerous?

And why did a poorly-written niche article get greenlit?

Gourmet House of Hong Kong,....

NOOOOOO! God, that place was awesome. Total number of menu items was like 650, they just rotated out specific ones and always kept the most popular. They wrote your order in Chinese. The interior deco wasn't great, but you sat at huge round tables with a lazy Susan in the middle so you could eat family-style. Best Chinese food I've ever had.

But yeah, sketchy as fark there. We usually got out food to go, because of the aforementioned lack of decor, but you always felt nervous walking to the car. But damn, it didn't matter, they were always there, there were always customers when you showed up, and nobody ever actually got assaulted in the parking lot, it just looked that way.

The Chinese are obviously burning their espionage assets in the US before the balloon goes up in North Korea.

Chinese Americans have spent over a century in the US being ostracized as perpetual foreigners. Never mind that many, especially the people who run the old school Chinese American restaurants are US citizens, have been born here, have gone to the defend the US during war and peacetime and have made their fortunes here.

But no, because of how their eyes look and how their skin look, I guess for some, they will never be Americans.

For the Middle Kingdom, they are wayward ambassadors expanding the borders. Give it a hundred more years.

Me, upon reading headline: Don't let it be Gourmet House of Hong Kong, don't let it be Gourmet House of Hong Kong...

NOOOO!!! That place was great, but there were hardly ever any customers in there.

There are a bunch of good east Asian restaurants near Mekong Supermarket in Mesa and Lee Lee Supermarket in Chandler.  As the article notes, such restaurants are moving out of downtown and into the east valley.

My sincere apologies. I was intending my comment to be a parody of those attitudes, but unfortunately it just didn't come out the way I wanted it to. I'll choose my words with more care in the future.

I feel like The Heathen Chinee should be required reading, along with a hefty dose of other American propaganda.

Too many kids today grow up to become morons people who don't even realize when they're being manipulated.

A very astute observation. The problem is the entire US education system is little more than a propaganda outlet that for the Middle and Upper Class Communities tries to mold them into good little workers and for the Lower Class and Urban Communities prepares them for Jail

So when you have people brought up in these cages, they are more apt to not question, and when given the choice, will stay in their cage rather than leave it. There's a book out there called the 4th Mind that describes this in far greater detail
