No.  You were trying to be an asshole and dick.  You succeeded.  Congratulations.

Thomas didn't want to comment on the ongoing feud. He did say, however, he was glad that his son, who is away at college, was not home to see the sign.

Yeah, about that...

However, the story also says that the other neighbor was hauled off by Deputies for being drunk and instigating a fight. I am sure both people are complete assholes.

This story makes me thankful.

When you are mad and angry, you dont try to be insensitive. But you usually are in at least some small way. Not to mention, people in that staye usually arent in a calm, rational, and measured mindset.

Everything else aside: What does who moved in first have to do with anything? Is it a license to be a dick if you move in a week before your neighbor? This isn't like someone moving next to an airport and then complaining about the noise.

From just this story it's hard to tell which of the two is driving this. The new neighbor could be an ass, but it's equally possible he moved in and quickly found out why the previous folks moved out, or maybe they'e both horrible people who deserve each other.

I'm glad TFA delved into the details of the property dispute so we can make an informed decision about what was going on here. Nah, fark it. Let's just call everyone an asshole and call it a day.

I had a similar discussion with my neighbor about trees earlier today...he also broke out a survey map.  I smiled at his suggestions and pretended to agree, all the while thinking about how I was going to cut his head off and feed it to my dogs.

When I was a kid we had a dispute with neighbors over the property line, so my father researched it through city property records, brought out a surveyor to confirm the property marker, and then one day while the neighbors were away a team of contractors came in and put up a new fence.  To say that they were not happy would be an understatement.  They threatened a lawsuit until my dad showed them the documents confirming the property line.  That had, for years, been using 2' feet of our property as if it was their's.

And, to be fair, I really wish that they had resolved the issue in a more peaceful manner.

Having shiatty neighbors can be scary.

csb
My brother moved into a new (for them) and after a short while, the house next door was sold and this Italian family moved in next door and there was some scuttlebutt that they were somehow connected to the mob. So one summer, my brother mows his lawn before the neighbor did and when the neighbor mowed the next day, he left about a 3" strip of unmowed grass right on the property line. This guy apparently knew, while mowing, where is property line was to the millimeter.  So, the next mow time, my brother mows a full mower width further than he had the week before, obviously going a couple feet onto the neighbors lawn. Within a week, landscapers were out planting a row of shrubs on the property line.

There was some kind of implied threat from the neighbor along the lines of "I don't want to have to get my crew/family out here" or something like that. My brother and his family moved within 6 months.

I have an asshole neighbor, or rather, my neighborhood has an asshole neighbor. Those he hasn't tried to swindle he's tried to threaten. It's a big steaming pile of shiat, and if wasn't for the 12 other households who thought the same (and worse) of him that I do, i'd think I was being irrational. He's also a 'Christian', which pisses the non-asshole Christians on my block off to high.. heaven.

I don't want him dead, but I do want his home to be repossessed, bulldozed or knocked down by a tornado.

Depends on for how long, in many places that is called adverse possession and they get to keep it if they have been using it long enough.  I have had an easement on my neighbors land as long as I keep rebuilding the fence where it is...now since the last few owners haven't objected I have an adverse possession claim.  The whole issue is about the whole bit of property falling down the hill and the fact the lines were drawn in the 19th century and otherwise my house is in their yard.

agreed, but was he wrong?  based on tfa, we dont really know.

so knowing nothing about the situation other than tfa tho, i would guess that new guy moves in, finds that his neighbor is obviously using his property and asks (or assholishly tells) that to stop.  "no.  now fark off new guy to the neighborhood," comes the response.

i very likely could be wrong, but i get the vibe that both parties are prone to being selfish assholes here.  however, even an asshole is entitled to property that rightly belongs to him.  if only there were some place that keeps records of property lines this could have been resolved long ago.  if only...

I have a douchebag neighbor. I don't think he's at the asshole neighbor level yet. He's a mailman who, for some reason, has had several really expensive cars in the past few years (STI, C63 AMG, Audi RS4) and likes to fit them with loud exhausts and rev them at all hours right next to our bedroom window. He's cooled off a little lately, since his wife left him and his parents have moved in.

His parents are very nice. He's still a douchey dude-bro though.

Not related to article itself, but the article below it in which a 3 year old with severe allergies died when the pre-k which knew of his allergies fed him a grilled cheese sandwich had this quote from the family:

"At this moment, it is unclear where responsibility for Elijah's death will fall, between the pre-K and the hospital itself," the page read. "We just want justice for Elijah."

Bolded mine.

I know you're grieving, it's sad.  Someone's stupidity took the life of your child, but it's not the hospital's fault.  Unless they wheeled him in and left him in the hallway to die, they did the best.

1. Pay a surveyor to clearly mark the property lines.
2. Stay on your damn side of the line.
3. Don't go out of your way to be an asshole.

Cut the shiat, establish the facts, and move on with your life.

I've got a relatively new neighbor that didn't bother to get a survey done and they think my property is actually bigger than it is. There's an old fence that doesn't actually follow the property line due to a tree that's long gone.

After wondering why they left a strip of their yard go feral, I finally talked to them and they insisted that I mow the overlapping part. I tried to explain to them the actual boundary (based on the survey diagram from my title insurance), but they just blankly stared at me like I was trying to trick them.

Finally I just said fark it and I've been mowing it the past two years. 18 more years and I can hopefully use adverse possession to annex that small piece of yard. If we're both still here, I'm throwing a big farking party on that tiny strip and then putting up a gigantic fence.

Although until that glorious victorious day, I still wouldn't put up a sign wishing them cancer. I'm perfectly content to quietly ignore them for as long as it takes. Silent grudges are my way, as it was my parents', and their parents' before them.

/new neighbors have also picked weird fights with the other people on my street
//hooray for home ownership
///hooray for three slashies

Some places are pretty close together. I'm pretty sure I could piss a lot of people off from even 30 feet away if I tried. Some sort of bullion-mop water cannon.
