For the nation that controls state their media, they sure do know how to influence ours.  Also doesn't hurt to have a lot of money to throw around.

I remember it was bad enough you could predict a major bombshell dropping the next day by how bad the deflector shields were up the day before on all corners of the internet.
Now Trump just drops the day before deuce on twitter all by himself and the bots pick it up from there.
You would figure this kind of interference would be considered an act of war in any other multiverse timeline.

Of course it's not an accident. It was a coordinated, master chess move by Hillary Clinton, who was using the Russian bots to throw the election so Trump could get elected so that her honeypot could ensnare Trump's sons and family in a massive probe that would destroy the GOP.

Look, I'm not saying that's what happened, but if it happened, and it's pretty likely the evidence is pointing to it...maybe we should have just gone ahead and made her president because she's a God at politics?

Funnily enough.

Our Ambassador to the UN, the one Trump appointed, Nikki Haley,  called the Russian election interference "an Act of Warfare" against the United States

Now, as you all learned in Supervillian school, the legal definition of treason is:
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason (18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason)

So, if levying war against the US is what makes one an enemy of the United States. anyone giving said enemies "aid" or "comfort" is, by legal definition,a traitor to the United States.

Ergo....

Twitter policy requires developers who archive its material to delete tweets from suspended accounts as soon as reasonably possible, unless doing so would violate the law or Twitter grants an exception. It's possible the existence of the deleted tweets in the archive obtained by the AP runs afoul of those rules

Sorry Twitter, but this is a matter of national security. You can shove your policy up your ass.

All the more reason that people like Peter Hadfield (potholer54 on YouTube) are instrumental in teaching people about spotting bias in reporting.

Unfortunately, being poorly informed feeds a vicious cycle of holding those who try to reveal the truth through rigorous research in contempt, because they talk all "science-y" and disagree with your world view.

A study showed that during September/October of 2016, 20% of all Twitter election traffic was bots if you're wondering just how massively pervasive the Russian influence on the conversation was.

Twitter bots have become so sophisticated that they can tweet, retweet, share content, comment on posts, "like" candidates, grow their social influence by following legitimate human accounts and even engage in human-like conversations

This one analyzed 20 million election related tweets.

And that's not the Russian troll farms.  Just the bots.

AND, the leaked DNC emails dropped the day after the RNC, no doubt to take advantage of the usual bump.

AND AND, wikileaks released more emails right before the election.

AND AND AND it's been confirmed that Trump's people approached wikileaks, and have been dealing with the Russians but lying about it.

But I'm sure it's all just coincidence or fake news, per Trump himself.

Damned if I know.  Lately I scroll, see a lot of back and forth, scroll, see more back and forth, scroll, see references to legal code in the back and forth, and then change threads because it squeezes out all other discussion.

As far as I am concerned, it is for Mueller to decide what is treason and what is not.  Anything else is me wasting my time pondering the question when I want to be wasting my time doing other things on fark.  I know it is time wasting -- 'else why would I be on fark? -- I just don't see the point of going the distance when my legal opinions aren't admissible to jack.

Though I think in one thread I saw someone make a reference to Donald Trump as Tina Turner in Thunderdome ("You break a deal, you face the wheel").  That made me laugh.

Precisely. Social media was already weaponized by private interests, but governments are rapidly realizing the ROI this sort of activity generates. If you need to change public opinion, you will not find a better machine to accomplish that than social media manipulation.

People seriously discount the power of social media when combined with the average humans ignorance/inability to tell fact from fiction.

Ergo....
