Pong is another classic example of the unwashed masses consuming simplistic garbage.

Try Computer Space, or if you have administrator access at a local university, go boot SpaceWar! onto one of the mainframes.  You'll be absolutely blown away by the graphics.

Whatever, you're all still noobs.

Oh, I see they cover it.  Let that be a lesson to anyone who complains about the lack of creativity in the video game industry: it's literally as old as the industry itself.  The first commercially successful video game was a goddamn ripoff.

Then they get sold to Warner and reverse course and try to shut down anyone making a game that remotely resembles an Atari classic.  http://www.trs-80.org/atari-anti-piracy-advertisement/

Okay, I can't be the only one having a hard time with the writing style of this.
And it's an excerpt from a book? No way I could read a whole book written like that.

Yeah, TFA was written like shiat. Jesus, that was hard to follow. And "The 2 males"? WTF?

It's actually an excerpt from a book, it turns out., A book written by someone with no skills in writing, it would appear.

TFA used to be a Wired link, with far better English.  That page is down now, so they went with the Google Translate edition.

Yea.  That's the entire problem isn't it?  To play computer games at the time required access to a university or corporation with millions of dollars in computer hardware that you were willing to steal from.

/Pong was the first video game system our family owned

Wow SpaceWar again. That was such a huge deal. I was fortunate enough to play that game in a number of arcades back in the day. I had no idea it was older than me. 1963. Wow!

/ Really quite the achievement for some bored engineers. There would be no video games without SpaceWar.

WTF am I reading.   Seriously, how can someone publish such unintelligible drivel?  I know "editor" is a long-lost term but this is ridiculous.

I'm guessing French, since the linked article as a TLD of .cf, Central African Republic.  A former French colony.
