Just how they drew it up!

3rd and 33 plays are at the very back of the playbook.

2017-11-06 12:58:50 PM
Yeah, they got them on a short pass. What a surprise! With something like 3rd and 33, if you aren't protecting the deep passes, then you truly aren't doing your job. But by covering the deep field, you have to give something up, and it's protecting against the run and things like screen passes.

This isn't some kind of never-seen result.

Giving up the short pass wasn't the problem, it was the 50 yard touchdown run after the completion that was bad.

KC Dallas had a simliar deal right before the half.

Caught Rodney Harrison on the halftime show of the SNF game and he highlighted Eli Apple's effort (the lack thereof) on that play....Apple kinda, sorta jogged in the general direction of the ball carrier, but gave up after about 5' or so.  It was pretty pathetic.

The Chiefs see your third and 33 and raise you scoring a TD from their end of the field on the last play of the half.  Difficulty: Not a Hail Mary.

Why should McAdoo be fired, when he gives such stellar motivational halftime talks to the team?

Hmm and Reese both need to go.

The playoff game with GB and the Dallas game didn't fill me with hope that McAdoo can get his shiat together like Coughlin could.

If Grigson can get fired for signing offensive skill players when he should've signed OL men to protect Luck, then Reese should go as well.

Yeah, but you see that all of the time. Defense lineups are structured in certain ways, and when they fall apart, it's brutal. Just doesn't surprise me. The runner gets plenty of time to look for a hole, and the blockers get plenty of time to hold make room.

A slant, caught behind the line of scrimmage, on 3rd and 33. Goes for 52 yards. Man that's some awesome defense.

Don't you worry about the Giants, let me worry about blank.

Sheesh... the Giants just *gave up* on that play.  Seriously.  No one could tackle that dude in the 33 yard box?

They could... but it seemed like a bunch of guys on NY just watching the play happen.

I made the same decision with the Bengals. Putting up bead board was more fun that watching them fail.

Eagles hanging 40 on the Donkos defense was more impressive than 50 on the Gints though.

Not bad, Giants, not bad.   However, I think I give the nod to the San Diego Chargers for giving up a first down by the Ravens on 4th and 29.

You'd be hard to find someone who's bashed the Rams more than I have the last few years, but the job Sean McVay has done there is absolutely incredible.  So many of the same players from the last few years, but that team is unrecognizable compared to the Fisher teams.  If he doesn't win coach of the year it'll be a shame.

The explanation I have heard is that Fisher is not good with QB's or offense in general. Officially his wheelhouse is defense, but even there he is kinda meh. He has a bad tendency to chew up and abuse his QBs, wasting them. McVay knows how to work with QBs and has brought the best out of Goff. Next, they need to improve the defense but that will happen with time.

Good thing the Giants have you to white knight them, at least their fluke Superbowl wins were able to allow you to many maintain some sense of self worth

as long as we all agree your two bowls were flukes.
7 point dogs and lose by 3, meh?  McNabb certainly sucked at the end, but I do think the coaching difference sealed the Eagles fate ( and the turnover diff).  The bigger fark up was SB XV I think.
The Eagles are the only team to ever beat Lombardi coached Packers in a playoff game however, which is nice.

At least I'm not the fan of a team that had Randall Cunningham as a QB, Reggie White as part of a dominant D...and couldn't win playoff game to save their lives because their HC was Buddy "I can only play an offense that was popular in the 1940s" Ryan.

there was a thread about the Colts owners wasting Andrew Lucks talent, that's kinda how i feel about Reggie White.  Between Jim Johnson passing away ( i think this indirectly lead to Reid going away) and the Chip Kelley era, it's been dark days.

As a Giants fan who wishes nothing but scorn and delights in schadenfreude at the Eagles expense I'll say this:  Had the Eagles hired a Defensive coach who loved the 4-3 and hired a decent OC, your lot probably would've won a few playoff games and maybe had a Superb Owl appearance.

it's testament to his putridity that Buddy sucked bad in Phily, then as Houston's DC, then at Artizona and that his putridity also carries to his sons and Jeff Fisher.

Between Jim Johnson passing away ( i think this indirectly lead to Reid going away) and the Chip Kelley era, it's been dark days.

I still laugh at Eagle fans when they were waxing poetic about Kelley's offense revolutionizing the league and it reminded me when Deadskin fans were saying the same thing about Spurrier.

As far as JJ, great DC and a PITA when we faced his D.  Had he lived long enough it would've been interesting to see him as a HC.
