Good riddance. Now if someone can convince Ridley Scott to retire. Dude was great, but his recent work has sucked balls

Is he gonna build a wall and make the aliens pay for it?

If he wanted to tell a story about AIs, why the fark was he working in the Alien universe instead of the Blade Runner one?  If Aliens had not existed (and been more popular than Alien) than I can understand him going this route, but almost nobody is going to an Alien movie for the AI implications; we wanna see a xenomorphic killing machine damnit!

"The Alien franchise ain't dead, man! It ain't dead! It's signs are real low but it ain't dead!"
"Then we go back and make more movies -"
"fark that!"
"You can't help them. They're being straight-to-videoed, just like the others should have been."

One great movie.

Did Lucas and Scott get together and say, "It'd be real funny if we pissed on everything we did prior"?

The Alien franchise needs to follow the LucasFilm approach.
1. Sell the rights to a company that will take the franchise seriously
2. Put someone in charge that understands the history and mythology of the franchise
3. Get new and fresh ideas onto the screen with DIFFERENT writers and directors
4. Profit?

If it's just Weyland-Yutani, then it also includes Outland, Firefly, V, Predator, and Dr. Who.

If it's more than just a cameo appearance, then it's just Outland and Predator (sequels, via Aliens).

Prometheus was one of the most internally nonsensical SF films I've seen, which is saying something. It made Avatar and The Matrix look entirely coherent and well thought out.

Also, it was really dull.

The author's dead, as they say (although they exaggerate), and canon should no longer be considered the sole property of content creators. As a member of the audience, you can decide for yourself what you consider canonical.

As far as I'm concerned, the first two Alien films are canonical, and the rest are fanfic.

Those could have so much more if they stayed in Ripley's timeline and followed the Dark Horse comics plot. Setting it in modern day Earth was a waste.

Let it die. There's nothing new, we've seen it all before. The tension is gone, the mystery is gone. You can have someone approach an egg as slowly as you like, swell the music all creepy as it opens, but everyone already knows what's about to happen. He had a good concept, botched it, then scrambled to give people what they wanted: a rehash of the first movie.  I was really excited to see a bigger world open up with the Engineers and how we fit into their world, but it just devolved into another series of body count movies.

There was one character in Covenant dumber than everyone in Prometheus, but the "median" dumbness of the Prometheus crew was worse.

Wrong, Ridley and you bloody well know.

Alien for the purists, who love the best art directed science fiction of all-time, and Aliens for the folks who love 'Marines in space'.

And we're done.

Covenant sucked.

He tried SOOOO hard to make the "Engineers" storyline a thing in Prometheus, and then shiatcanned it RIGHT OUT OF THE FARKING GATE in Covenant.  That was the only plot point I even remotely cared about.

Who were they?
Why did they make us?
Why did they want to come back?

Aliens 3: After the events of Aliens the Sulaco is on its way back to Earth while the crew is in hypersleep but something has gone wrong. The alien Queen found a way back inside, killed the crew, laid some eggs, and spawned at least one xenomorph before dying. Years later another ship finds the Sulaco off course and drifting. Sh*t meets fan. Everyone dies but not before sending a distress call and setting course for the nearest colony.

Aliens 4: The ship that found the Sulaco has crashed on the nearby planet with the colony. The Company has sent out a salvage team for the now crashed ship. World overrun with xenomorphs. Sh*t meets fan. Again. Most everyone dies. One or two people escape with another xenomorph on board. Meanwhile what's left of the Sulaco is still drifting out there with alien eggs on board.

Aliens 5: Profit! And more xenomorphs. The xenomorph infested ship that escaped the colony world makes it back to Earth. The sole survivor on board is dead. The ship is towed into a nearby space station to be investigated. Xenomorph gets loose. Humans get a taste of the xenomorph death machine. Xenomorph is ultimately killed after racking up a kill count like he was playing an intense game of Counterstrike. Close one! But Earth is safe. For now. The Company has learned nothing from these encounters. It still wants one for Christmas.

Alien 6: The Company sends TWO salvage teams out to the colony world to recover some xenomorphs. They didn't bring enough people. Predators show up to have some fun. Sh*t hits the fan. They recover some intact egg pods and leave. Meanwhile someone discovers the Sulaco. Oops! Some people die. They blow up the Sulaco with people still trapped on board because xenomorphs are super scary. They feel bad and leave(with xenomorph stowaway who is filling out a postcard for his family...wish you were here!).

Alien 7: The Company guys make it back to Earth. The xenomorphs get loose from the lab on Earth. Sh*t really hits the fan. The xenomorph invasion of Earth has begun.

I'll go against the grain and stand up for the third Alien flick, the prison movie.  Didn't care for it when I first saw it...it was no Aliens...but it grew on me.

Agree the series feels pretty played out now, though.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing one burst out of a Stormtrooper's chest...

The problem with that, is that Neill will have to write a whole pile of new stuff for his film.  I know someone who is good friends with Neill, and the poop is that the stuff that was good in Covenant, was ripped out of Neill's script for Alien 5.
