In a way it's cool - you make enough money to paper over the cracks of the things you wanted when you were a kid. Rod Stewart goes so far as to rent an extra hotel room so he can set up his train set when he's on the road. And that's fair enough - you figure out what makes you happy and you keep doing that.

But the thing is Youtube shows you what a Serious train set looks like .....

Good for him. He could have been dodging sexual abuse charges instead.
John Oliver would have liked to speak to you a couple months back, though.

He was always cool in the Bay area. He'd invite random model train enthusiasts out to his house every month or so to 'play trains' and give his kid more social time. The only rule was don't talk about music. You're there for the trains.

If any of his microphone collection is on the auction block, I'm going to be a poor man.

/though in reality, I'll never get one; some crazy collectors with deep pockets out there

Imagine if people realized that despite all your wealth, the things you need can fit in a backpack. Everything else is a luxury that ties you down.

I keep seeing this platitude these days. I guess the Trumpistas are preparing us for serfdom.

you are so spot-on. i was raised in a generation where you're told work hard to get the things you want. so stuff became the reward. and all that stuff winds up owning you, it's an albatross around your neck. the sooner you find happiness in moderation the better off you are.

Serfs are tied to something or somewhere. Want to keep a nice house full of all your crap? Join the corporations and live under the scrutiny of seven layers of bean dip management. If you can whittle things down to being able to work from internet cafes you could become a digital nomad.

It's not a new idea.

But then you're a pikey who has the brilliant idea that if you can drink water with your hands you can throw away your cup and rejoice.

He also did the nearby Bridge concert for like 30 years. When he dies, it will be big in the bay area. Maybe not Jerry Garcia big, but Robin Williams big for sure.
