I love it that after it was figured out that he actually did show up. It would have been even better if he sent a second stand in.

Andy Warhol is the routing of everything I want to accomplish as a shiftless slacker. He really elevated "Meh" to a level that is an inspiration to us all.

I swear the modmins changed the headline from a minute ago... did someone put acid on my mouse?

"Midgette, playing Warhol, and Morrisey had already delivered film screenings and talks at The University of Utah and University of Montana before arriving in Oregon on Oct. 4. "

I was promised Oregon, not an interstate impostoring scheme!

So somebody that no one could recognize fooled everyone into not recognizing him.  Hmmm...interdasting.

Is acid skin soluble? (I honestly don't know)

Or alternatively, why are you licking your mouse?

I guess I still don't get what is essentially last century's "art".

Fine with that. It was crap.

It is. The Hell's Angels used to rub it on their face.

He punked with the "art" as well soup cans and silk screens. 15 minutes too long.

2017-10-23 11:06:22 PM
So making art out of Campbell Soup cans wan't punking everyone in general? The only thing worse than his art is anything by Jackson Pollock. Or Homestar Runner comics.

Seconded. Every time I go to Vegas I stop at the Bellagio art gallery. One trip they had an Andy Warhol exhibit. I stared at that goddamn wall sized Campbell's Soup painting for like 5 minutes wondering how the hell he didn't end up like every other D student we all knew in high school.

Because the D students were doing "heartfelt, inspirational art," while Warhol did his own thing.

/Many of the great artists were great not because they did something mundane, but because they did it first.

That's the kind of failed logic the church used during the inquisition.

You mix the acid with DMSO.

Even if he didn't do it first, he was the first person to do so that was noticed and elevated to that level.  Nirvana weren't the first "grunge" band, they were just the first that the larger American culture took notice of.  They weren't necessarily the best musicians from that genre, they just are the enduring memory a lot of people have of grunge because they were the first.

Some of it is being first, some of it is being great, and some of it is just perfect timing.

Obviously you never did acid and considered a can of soup, or a box of detergent.

Warhol is the guy who figured out that being successful is about working the system properly.  His art was about the production/consumption of art.  It's kind of like if you utilize talk shows and twitter properly you can elevate yourself well beyond your talents or intellect and become president.  There isn't a lot of difference between a gold trump hotel and a tomato soup silkscreen.

He was a fairly ordinary commercial artist, but then got the idea that he could be a successful, literal, commercial artist.  That's what made the difference.

Wow, he really punked the entire state. In fact, a bunch of redneck farmers in Milton-Freewater still sit around and complain about being so embarrassed.
