For some reason I thought the Red Sox won, though I haven't been paying attention to Baseball really since July because the Giants have sucked this year.

2017-10-11 10:56:54 AM
The announcers on the radio were talking about this in the 9th inning before the Sox lost, guessing that he would be fired within the next two days.

Is the Stupid tag warming up in the bullpen? Note to the Red Sox management: The guy you hire had better be better than the guy you fire. John Farrell won a World Series & several division titles. Those guys don't grow on trees. Farrell will likely get another manager's gig in approximately 20 minutes, but you'll still be looking for a patsy to shove out the door like you did to Francona & Farrell.

Good luck with that.

I read the headline and thought that subby misspelled Pharell's name.  Then I read the article and can see why John Farrell is not singing "Happy" now.

Just in time for the Tigers to hire him.

I'd take that bet.
Girardi made a couple of boneheaded mistakes in Game 2 of the ALDS this year, but his teams have generally overperformed expectations during his tenure, this year included.

The manager didn't do that, the team of highly talented players did.  The question is whether he helped them achieved that success or was merely along for the ride.  They need a clubhouse culture change if they want to win a championship again.  Farrell isn't the guy to make that happen.

Well if the pitching didn't all develop dead arm syndrome at the same time, things may be different.

Good thing he's not a jumped-up pitching coach...

I thought that would be the case too but Tim Kirkjian was on TV this morning saying how he doesn't see Giardi coming back and I was like wtf. I don't follow the Yankees closely so I was sort of shocked.

Then, the Yanks win today and he's a saint that will die a Yankee. Don't use a weather vane to navigate.

Giradi might be burnt out dealing with the bullshiat that is the NYC Media nexus, and would rather manage in somewhere more calming, like Detroit.

Look how well getting rid of Francona went! This is a brilliant decision. The man is waaaaay yo aloof to manage in baseball. Non-aloofness is a key metric!

Yeah, he's been kinda pilloried after Game 2. But now they're getting ready for Game 5 and taking a shot at clobbering Kluber again.

BTW you know that Girardi's already had 900 victories as Yankees manager? Never had a losing season with the Yanks, even when guys like Jeter and A-Rod and Teixeira got old, they couldn't afford any decent free agents any longer, and the only prospects they had coming up were scrubs like Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain. That's a lot for anyone to handle.

You're not giving the Dodgers a chance against the Cubs?

/yes, I'm not giving the Nats a chance at all. Fite me.

Dave Dombrowski will lead the search. The last manager he hired, Brad Ausmus, was fired by the Tigers last month and could emerge as a candidate.

Let me know how that works out for you, Sox fans.

Nah, I think they're probably going to take the pennant this year. But, if they don't, particularly if they are swept or lose in 5, there's going to be a lot of people talking about it. Which isn't fair to Roberts, since the MLB playoffs are a crapshoot every year. Still, the Dodgers are already the only team to make the postseason for five straight seasons without winning at least two pennants. If they can't muster one this season, I wouldn't be surprised if they did something, even if it's a symbolic sacrifice of Dave Roberts.

There's already been a leak that whatever reason they had for firing him they would have fired him regardless of whether or not they won it all.  He was already on thin ice after the whole sexing-up-a-female-CSN-reporter thing last year.

Sadly, I agree. I like Girardi and think he's a good manager. He was a terrible manager Friday, but overall, he's  fine, and probably better than any replacement they can find. I feel like he is going to be third in manager of the year award based on the Yankees' performance vs. their expectations.

They don't even need one. Nobody just loves Farrell and wishes he'd be the coach forever.
