To hear everything that is going on here you can tune into WIBC via the 'net from http://www.wibc.com/

There is a TF discussion about what is going on with the massive severe weather we are having that I wish you could see... there is some amazingly bad things happening here at the moment.

Not to mention that you still have people leaving the track and there and the NBA eastern conference finals are going on right as I type this...

Someone from Florida mentioning trailer parks? Last time I was in Florida I noticed more trailer parks than I did teeth.

Tornado + another tornado = tornadoes. Just like a potato and another potato are potatoes. Unless you're Dan Quayle.

/and by redneck..i mean white trash.

You have this confused with a NECKCAR event, like, say, Daytona.
2004-05-30 08:59:47 PM
I'm from Florida, but I know nothing of trailer parks. To call Indy racing, trailer trash though, is ignorant. This is big money, and talent. NASCAR sucks compared to this.
2004-05-30 09:00:01 PM
I thought this was supposed to happen the day after tomorrow.

/got nothin'

"Make that...three buoys." :0)
2004-05-30 09:00:55 PM
It's a scientific fact that trailer parks emit tornidos; a sub-atomic particle, similar to the Higgs boson. The proximity of these particles, combined with their spin, to cumulonimbus clouds, combined with the Coriolis effect, and van der waals forces, produces tornados. Really. Look, I don't lie, OK? So farkin be quiet.

People will think it was held in Canada.

any news about monroe county?!
2004-05-30 09:14:04 PM
since i live, like 15 miles away from the speedway, i can say right now this weather blows. damn tornados headin right for my house. btw, played a soccer tourney in this farkin weather today, it was killer.

/some hoosier complaining
2004-05-30 09:20:57 PM
These are some impressive storms. I was sitting outside, watching these ultra low clouds, just start shooting upwards and turning black.. amazing.

I hope none of our good farkers are in the way of this stuff; it looks like we got more coming in the next 45 minutes or so.

NE Indianapolis weather report here: The worst of it passed to the north and to the south of us. There've been several tornadoes touching down around and in Indy, and channel 13 had some impressive footage from their helicopter of a nursing home with parts of its roof torn off, and at least one gentleman still in his bed, under open skies.

We've just gotten heavy rain and some stiff winds (we're in Lawrence, east-north-east edge of Indy), and for now it's halfway calm, still raining, but judging by ch. 13's radar, there's more on the way, though probably not as bad as the worst of what's already passed by. A friend of mine lives in Irvington in Indy - his house was probably right under some of the worst of it. I'll be dropping him an email and probably call his cell-phone soon to see how he fared.

2004-05-30 09:40:49 PM
Yeah.. that man stuck in his bed was one of the saddest things I've ever seen on TV. I hope that the people were okay in that nursing home, but I have heard of at least 2 people dead and there will probably be a lot more.
2004-05-30 09:56:23 PM
the indy 500 became meaningless to me after the IRL/CART schism
2004-05-30 09:59:10 PM
willywanka -- I'm in Bloomington; we had sirens three times today, and tornadoes sighted near Ellettsville and about 7 miles north of B-town. During one warning I went out to get the pizza I ordered, and during the second (which had sirens twice because they extended the warning area) the sun came out.

Thus if by "Monroe County" you mean "Bloomington," aside from a total assload of downpour in the wee hours this morning (and starting again now) there wasn't much to tell. The kids liked camping out in the basement, though.
2004-05-30 10:00:57 PM
Thanks for the updates on the weather, guys. My gf lives in Indianapolis and it's hard getting good weather reports when you're all the way in Germany.
2004-05-30 10:04:39 PM
JohnBoone--this is actually the 6th or 7th time the race has been called early (I forget how many they said had happened before). Hasn't happened in almost 30 years though. Congrats to Buddy and Dave, and good luck with them tornados.
/misses those flatlands...
2004-05-30 10:05:22 PM
Letterman is getting even for them naming that highway 'the Dick' instead of 'the Dave.' First he steals the race, then he trashes the place!
2004-05-30 10:18:09 PM
It was rediculous here in Indy- I'm on the southwest side, and could see two seperate spots rotating. It sounds like we were spared a lot of damage because the rotations stayed in the clouds for the most part, touching down then going right back up. It was looking bad for a while though.
2004-05-30 10:21:29 PM
This is nothing new. It happens everytime someone named "Buddy" wins anything. You should have been here when Buddy Elbertson won his spelling bee...
2004-05-30 10:25:38 PM
All those cars going round in circles caused the tornados.

Seriously though. The Indy race has lost a LOT of what once made it great, but there was actually quite a bit of passing this time around. Still, even with the bunches of cars, there wasn't nearly as much relevant passing going on as there was in the Coke 600.
2004-05-30 10:34:28 PM
leave it to david letterman and indy car racing to anger the gods.
2004-05-30 10:34:30 PM
I would have submitted this with a better headline: David Letterman wins Indy 500, Jay Leno Surrenders.

/okay, so that's not so great either
2004-05-30 10:42:45 PM
I lived!
2004-05-30 10:57:26 PM
Let's see how I do here.

From the Home office at the Brickyard, the Top Ten Reasons why the Rahal-Letterman car won the 500:

#10 Giant gap in the front of the car let it go faster than anyone else.
#9 Car is powered by the very own Late Night Big-Assed Ham.
#8 Buddy Rice was rocking to music from the Late Show CD

... oh hell, I'm to tired to keep going, someone else finish this
2004-05-30 10:59:51 PM
What is the deal with everyone winning from the pole today?

Eurpoean Grand Prix: won from the pole by Michael Schumacher

Indy 500: won by Buddy Rice, from the pole

Coca-Cola 600: won by Jimmie Johnson, again from the pole.
2004-05-30 11:09:48 PM
How could anyone like this? It's not a farkin sport, its a bunch of slack jawed yokels going straight and turning left. How boring. F1 is real racing. Im not even an F1 fan, but jesus christ, this is just ghey.
2004-05-30 11:10:55 PM

What can one say? Racers love the pole.
2004-05-30 11:21:06 PM
It's a good thing I was in Anderson last night for the Little 500 instead of tonight...
