The "gif" is on reddit, but chrome interprets it as a video so I can't embed it here. Bonus: the video on Reddit is a link to a gif, which I can't embed because it's too big.

So to recap, someone made a video of the video, which they converted to a gif online, which reddit converted to a video, which Chron converted to a slideshow.

I always try to find the source. It usually is better but if a link is embedded I try to open it and get the youtube source (if I want to see it). Since they 'utube' are owned by google they provide non jerky screens usually because they grease the plams of the vendors that do 'last mile' service.

That said I am still wondering about what was in her backpack. Something don't look right back there.

They're full-sized pickels. Val Kilmer is just that fat now.

It's made so much better because she's going apeshiat missing the container and he's finally all "Fine have some farkin' nachos!" and then just walks off while getting a sip of his beer.

An article about a video that doesn't contain said video embedded in the article IS the "vertical video" of internet journalism.

I think it's a baby. Any reports about a child being crushed to death?

I think they're just being practical. Efficient.

One time I got a part shipped from a company. I need to know what a particular peace inside that part looked like, so one of the guys of the company took a selfie of himself holding it up smiling. He could have given me a description of it of some kind that I probably would have failed to understand. Instead he did something funny at the selfie.

Sure, the journalists could have found some it guys to figure out how to download the video of the store surveillance system and put it in an Internet usable form. But instead he just use this camera to record the video. And since he's not that tech-savvy himself, instead of recording it as a video, he did that thing where you hold the camera button and takes a bunch of pictures one after another. So it's more like a gif.

Then the tech guys at the website made the slew of pictures into a gif.

It's just being efficient.

I still can't figure out what's in her backpack, or if it's a baby.

But if it were a baby, don't you think that would have been a huge part of the story?

How about the popover "can we send you updates" that you have to close, only to have another full page ad pop over?  That's a pretty big fail too.  All I saw was popovers.  I never got to read the article.

At some point web designers are going to have to realize that that sort of behavior PISSES people off!

This article doesn't even have screenshots, it has photos of the computer screen, taken at an angle.  if that's the "vertical video" of internet journalism, this is the "vertical video filled out to horizontal with meaningless blur so it doesn't even show correctly on your phone when viewed vertically" of internet "journalism"

there is an auction site i use that has full page popups while you are trying to see a particular item. the popup asks "can't find what you want?" it's seriously annoying and my email rant got a "you'll get over it" response.

That deserves more than just an upvote of the smiley face.
Dwarves in rubber lederhosens, singing oompa loompa songs while dancing around a fatty Val Kilmer. That's an image that will screw with my masterbation ritual for many rubs to come

I would venture that the one thing that the young lady learned is that assaulting someone in public may result in a surveillance video clip going viral and humiliating you internationally.  In addition to a video going viral, it was featured on another reddit thread
