I don't believe in the no-win headline.

I can only assume that subby is sh*tting on Leto because of Suicide Squad. I'll be honest: it was a terrible movie, but I found it entertaining, and I thought Leto did a good job. He made the Joker his own thing. He separated it from past performances and entered new territory. Some of that territory was of dubious value, but it was novel and interesting.

Compare to other Jokers:

Cesar Romero: utter camp, in a good way, but not quite what we're generally looking for in the modern age.

Jack Nicholson as himself as the Joker. Enough said?

Heath Ledger: very good job, but the nihilistic themes seemed overplayed (I'm a philosopher and play a lot of Old World of Darkness games, so my standards are probably ridiculous high for "dark" material compared to most), and I don't think there would have been nearly as much praise if he hadn't died. The character didn't seem to have an overall purpose, but that was the purpose, and the point, which I applaud.

Mark Hamill: the definite Joker as far as I'm concerned. Batman: The Animated Series is one of the best animated shows of all time. Hamill as the Joker, Ron Perlman as Clayface, and DAVID F*CKING WARNER as Ra's al Ghul. How can you go wrong?
