Some idiot crashed his SUV into my Nissan Versa, while it was parked, and I was inside cooking breakfast, about two weeks ago, and his damn insurance company is insisting that they can not pay out until they know for certain it was not my fault.  Guy was going 70, served into our parking lot, and launched my car into the side of a building that was 20 feet away, all while I was legally parked, and inside my apartment.  But yeah, I guess it could totally turn out to be my fault.

You cook breakfast inside your car? Was it parked down by the river?

I thought maybe subby was meaning the crash was intentional as the person was annoyed the family was using 5 parking spots or some type of insurance scam. But after reading the article, it just seems to be DUI.

Come on, read it again. The food was served in their parking lot.

Ahh, when I saw cooking breakfast inside a versa, I figured it was just an expression for freebasing in the morning.

This is why you have your insurance company deal with the other guy's. Subrogation is the way to go, because the other insurance company will dick you around if they can.

Five people with cars (at least) living together in an apartment used to be suspicious. With skyrocketing housing costs, five cars per apartment is the new normal. Parking on the street near my house after dark ain't happening. Welcome to the big city.

I know that feel.  After my truck was totaled by a guy running a red light, his insurance refused to pay.  My only recourse is to drag him to small claims court for maximum of $1,000, 25% of the value of the truck.

Depends on the state laws where wdm is at, and his coverage.  My coverage and state law states I can only seek up to $1,000 from the other driver if they're at fault.  If their insurance refuses, I can only go after the driver in court.  If I could afford full coverage, then I do as you say.  My insurance decided they weren't going to cover the tow.  Insurance is a scam.

I can't remember which romance writer it was, but in Donald Shoup's 'The High Price of Free Parking' he mentioned a neighborhood where you could, for something really cheap like $5 and proof of residence, get a residence sticker.  The problem was there was no limit to how many you could get.  People couldn't figure out why there were never any parking spaces available... turns out the romance novelist had a collection of vintage cars that she kept on the street so she could keep the parking space at her mansion free for her daily driver.  She had gotten 25 extra stickers so she could store her cars on the street indefinitely.

When the neighborhood found out they quickly put a limit on how many stickers any one person could have.
