EvilElecBlanket: Did anyone else stop carrying about this after Rush got in?
thatguyoverthere70: OR GTFO!
Fat Old Broad: I haven't been keeping up. Besides the Monkees, who should be in that isn't?
ThirstyCraig: Fat Old Broad: So I googled right after I posted. Looks like Moody Blues, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest.Alright Maiden and Priest are good options.
LewDux: Still no place for Rush
rickythepenguin: thatguyoverthere70: OR GTFO!Told the stroy before, Mojo or UNCUT just maybe 3-4 months ago did a piece on the Monkees. at one point, I think it was Mickey Dolenz, that said of the Monkees' legacy, something like, "I will never understand why we don't get the respect we deserve. I get it, how people say, "yeah, great songs, but they didn't actually write the songs or play on the records.""First of all - we ourselves wrote some of those songs. Second, The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Beach Boys? How many records did 'The Funk Brothers' or 'The Wrecking Crew' play on that other bands got credit for? That's what pisses *me* off about the whole, 'yeah but they didn't actually play on their records' thing about us."Pretty dogshiat class.Radiohead = don't care, overrated for meRage Against The Machine = .............you get it off of 3-4 albums? I know Nirvana did but RATM is not Nirvana. a bit of a dogwhistle to me; the band that talked shiat to power getting a nomination.Janet Jackson = you can tell the story of quote unquote rock music without her.The Smiths = .........no Smiths entry until Joy Division. Period. many currrent bands cite the Smiths, but the entire ilk of the second wave - and I'd throw in U2 even though they're already in - say JD changed the game.J. Geils Band = regional act with one big hitLL Cool J = i guess we do need someone from the liplicking enthusiast community.Nine Inch Nails = not my thing, I don't think deserving but would also have no real issue if they (HIM) got in. which kinda goes to the Monkees thing - how many iterations did NIN have?

Truthman: Seriously?J. Geils Band? That right there cements proof that the Hall of Fame is an absolute joke. A dozen bands already called out are so much more deserving for EVERY reason.

thatguyoverthere70: mcmnky: thatguyoverthere70: [img.fark.net image 400x210]OR GTFO!You may be kidding, but there was a period The Monkees were the only American rock/pop act matching The Beatles in record sales. Not kidding at all, but I believe Mike Nesmith admitted on Facebook or somewhere that he made up that sales stat to see if the media would fact-check him. They didn't, and now it's pretty much accepted as the truth.

Listen to their whole catalog, they were an awesome band and he was a terrific songwriter with more than one hit.
Duke of Madness Motors: This is the problem with all "hall of fames". Do they only induct the best of the best, the ones that everyone can agree on? No. Too many personal faves of the judges get in.
John Buck 41: Rock & Roll and LL Cool J do not belong in the same sentence.
Gulper Eel: BKITU: Also, one Alfred Matthew Yankovic is conspicuously absent. He gets in same year as Tangerine Dream, Brenda Lee and Minor Threat.
Hoopy Frood: Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels rocked as hard as anybody in their day, and I don't even see them on any why-aren't-they-in lists.
ThirstyCraig: I don't listen to popular music, nor have since about 1982, J Geils is Hall of Fame worthy? The Rock n Roll Hall is about as good nowadays as the WWE's.
Fat Old Broad: So I googled right after I posted. Looks like Moody Blues, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest.
