This is as good a place as any to post my favorite personal Bill Murray story. A number of years back, I taught Latin to one of his kids. During a PTO night, the principal comes to my room where I was stationed for the evening and asks if I can show a parent how to use the school's classroom management website.   I said of course, and she leads Bill Murray into my classroom! We spend about 15 minutes or so going over this website, and I can tell you the man has barely any idea how to use a computer. But I get him up to speed, all the while he was telling me how much his kid loves my class and how much he wishes he could go back and take Latin. I am of course keeping a cool composure, but inside I am jumping up-and-down. He even asks me to put my number in his phone, since he doesn't know how to do that himself.  He never has actually called me, but it's still freaking cool!

While we were chatting, the principal brings another set of parents into my room. The mother is American, but the father is German with a decently heavy German accent. Bill and these parents greet each other and are chatting for about a minute when the principal comes back in and asked me to run over to the auditorium and help with a technical issue (in addition to the Latin teacher I am also the go to tech guy).  So I turned to Bill and ask him if he minds subbing for me while I run over to check on whatever the problem is. He says sure, and proceeds to show this new set of parents all of the stuff I just showed him!

It turns out that the technical issue was fixed before I even got to the auditorium, and so I quickly reurned to my classroom.   When I get there, Bill is still showing them this website.  He really did act as my substitute. Bill and this other family chat for a few more minutes, and all the while the American mother and German father are very straight faced, chatting as if this were any other parent they were speaking to.

Bill soon says he has to run, tells me it was great to meet me, and heads out the door. Almost as soon as he is gone, the principal steps back into my room and asks how things were going. The German dad, who up until this point has been very restrained, looks at her with the biggest grin on his face (like a little kid opening up an unexpected video game console on Christmas morning) and in a heavy German accent exclaims "Bill Murray just showed me how to use a computer!  Wunderbar!"    We then both began to gush about how awesome that all was.

Sorry for the length of this post, but I think it's a pretty cool story.

That pretty much sums up Bill Murray in general.

Why won't people stay in the same box I keep putting them into?

He is serious about theatrically entertaining people through the use of an elaborate joke.
