Marvel's Inhumans
TONIGHT, 8:00 PM ON ABC, 2 HRS 1 MIN 2017 TV-PG
Behold...The Inhumans; Those Who Would Destroy Us
A divisive conflict erupts between Black Bolt and Maximus, brothers with different visions for the future of their people in the series premiere of this adventure series about stranded members of the Royal Family trying to reunite and return home...

I really don't know know what to expect with this series.  It was thrown together with IMAX at the last minute to fill a window in IMAX's release schedule and apparently it shows.  I don't expect to much but I'll watch, it can't be worse than Iron Fist after all.  When this 8 episode run ends Agents of Shield will return.  A show that Disney wouldn't let ABC cancel.

Alas my work schedule makes watching live on Friday nights out so I won't be submitting anymore viewing links for Inhumans or AoS so someone will need to step up.

I've heard it has some interesting ideas but is severely handicapped by the effects budget.

Saw it on IMAX with a free pass.  Ramsay Bolton was good, the rest "Meh". A sizable part of it takes place on Oahu and the geography realities held up, mostly. They did use a shot of the state capitol building for some buildings on the moon.
I thought the second episode better than the first.

######MINOR SPOILER########
Medusa's hair is problematic from a

I read this too. So whatever minuscule CGI budget went into Lockjaw? That's it? If I just want to see Hawaii locations, I'll just watch that CBS show where they cut the Asian folks out of their CGI budget.

Which means of your two leads, one can't talk (his only power), and the other loses her power.  Not really much of a cheese shop, is it?

smd31: Sooo...children of Inhumans aren't Inhumans themselves...

They are Inhumans. It's genetic. It's just that the effects/powers do not show themselves unless they've gone through terrigenesis. All Inhumans have a common ancestry (alien) but they appear as human until exposed to terrigen mist. If a human without the Inhuman ancestry is exposed to the mist, it kills them (in the MCU).

In the Marvel comics universe, the mist only kills mutants.

Okay... so my initial impressions:

* Medusa is miscast. She's just... not right.
* Medusa's hair is cheap-looking. Bad color. Bad quality.
* Medusa's dress is terrible. Just plain ugly. She deserves better.
* So... is Crystal's only power the ability to talk to Lockjaw?
* Karnak's haircut is distracting. Why not bald?
* Crystal's hair is badly done, too.
* Black Bolt looks about right, and fits with MCU ideals... So far.
* Triton looked decent, too.
* The whole show is kind of slow, though... Drags a bit with the soap opera style they've gone for.
* Still better than Pseudo Trek: Discovery. At least in this I don't hate the leads.

2017-09-29 08:40:12 PM
plot and characters super predictable so far

I'm guessing he just 'sees the future' and chooses the best path in a situation...

So not really time powers as far as doing x and then rewinding like in the Doctor Strange movie.

Well... I mean, I see what they were trying  for, but I also see that they had a budget of about $38.00 to make this show. It looks like a high school play in terms of quality, and that's hurting it a lot. I think the entire budget was spent to draw Lockjaw.

If they'd had a bigger budget and gone the way of the movies (their original course) it might have been something interesting... But as it stands, it has a long way to go to be anything but a step below Iron Fist.

I'll still watch it, but I'll treat it like a supplemental, cheaply-told story for Agents of SHIELD.

I liked it, I don't see how so many of the reviews are bad.  Yes, some of the effects looked a biatcheap, but Attilan looked amazing, and overall the cinematography was impressive.

I'll be interested in seeing where this goes, hopefully they give it a shot to develop and don't can it early because of some bad initial press.

TuteTibiImperes: I'll be interested in seeing where this goes, hopefully they give it a shot to develop and don't can it early because of some bad initial press.

They wouldn't because of press, but if the ratings tank, they'll pull it in a heartbeat. Giving it a Friday Death Slot isn't promising, though. Inhumans' connection to the greater MCU is far more tenuous than AoS, which means Disney won't even justify keeping it as "free" marketing for the movies.

ABC's already promoting this as 'The Complete Series'. Not Season 1; Complete. They started doing this after the IMAX premier fell flat on it's face.

Also, between this and the failure of Iron Fist, I think Scott Buck's career as a Hollywood showrunner has come to an end.

I'll take it that's an insult of some kind. Maybe I need to rewatch Citizen Kane, as the first time I saw it I was bored half to death; I didn't care for it at all.

That's not an uncommon response. Citizen Kane has this mythic status as 'the greatest film ever made', but it really isn't a great movie for viewers. It's definitely the greatest film ever made for directors, critics, and students though. The whole thing is basically film school condensed into 114 minutes and is seriously worthy of praise for bringing together and even pioneering various visual and narrative techniques that're commonplace today.

(I personally love it for the dialogue, and the way it carries over a lot of radio play techniques to the screen and makes them work).

Only deadly with the crystals grown post Inhuman exodus on Earth.  This was due to metal from the Diviner storage device being infused in the crystals, that metal was deadly to humans.

As for the show it could be worse... it's hard but it could be.  It's 8 episodes and Disney will probably require the full run.

At the end Lockjaw will devour Maximus

It was always promoted as an 8 episode series.  Now if somehow they made a hit a second series would probably occur but that's not happening.

2017-09-30 03:40:12 PM
Some thoughts on the show from someone who's never read an Inhumans story:

* Is Black Bolt the dumbest person on the show? I understand not being familiar with Earth, but wouldn't you get out of the way of moving vehicles instead of standing in the road like an idiot? And he goes into a shop to get a suit so he doesn't call attention to himself, then walks out with the suit and attacks anyone who comes after him, therefore calling attention to himself. All of his actions seemed like someone who'd been born yesterday. He doesn't talk; that doesn't mean he doesn't think.
* I like how Medusa has a full head of prehensile hair yet can only attack one person at a time instead of everyone at once. I guess that's the limit of the CGI budget.
* I couldn't understand some of the Inhumans' powers. Karnak I understand thanks to people like the posters above, but what does Crystal do?
* Maximus is the most uncharismatic leader of a coup that I've ever seen.
* I like that they lampshaded Gorgon standing around and doing nothing, instead of trying to find the other Inhumans (assuming he knew they were on Earth with him).
* Are cops supposed to slowly follow a suspect walking down the street, instead of catching up to him? Or were they waiting for the other cops to pull in front of Black Bolt in order to surround him?

2017-09-30 03:50:37 PM

smd31: Because her hair won't grow back? -_-

Have you seen how long it is? It would probably take a couple of years to grow back.

Besides, I assume an Inhuman's powers are everything to them (look at how they treat people whose powers don't emerge). I would guess taking them away, even temporarily, is like taking away their identity.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr: * I couldn't understand some of the Inhumans' powers. Karnak I understand thanks to people like the posters above, but what does Crystal do?

Four element (fire, water, air, earth) manipulation, though all the showed of it in the premiere was her idly frosting over a ball and tossing a small fireball at whatserface.

This one's for Serinda Swan:

"Clowns" by Goldfrapp

Only clowns would play with those balloons
What d'ya wanna look like Barbie for
Dear oh Lord, it's easy

Roasting, roasting, roasting deed
Mahogany
Titties that live on and on and on and on

Only clowns would play with those balloons
What d'ya wanna look like Barbie for
Dear oh Lord, it's easy

Only clowns would play with those balloons
Passive when I'm in record
Day and night I'm watching you

/Her acting is terrible and so was this whole thing.

Don't forget that in the show, she seems to have the power to command Lockjaw. Whenever they want to use him to transport, he has to get explicit instructions from Crystal and he ignores anyone else.

Wow. It didn't look like Gorgon knew how to walk with his hooves. I've seen toddlers wearing mommy's heels move with more grace.

That was... not good.

Also, am I supposed to be rooting for Ramsay Bolton trying to free the lower castes or the royal family? I mean, they seem to have a policy of, "No cool power? To the mines with you!". So in addition to bad everything else, the "bad guy" is more identifiable.

2/10, I liked the dog.

Nefarious: RoyFokker'sGhost: ABC's already promoting this as 'The Complete Series'. Not Season 1; Complete.

It was always promoted as an 8 episode series.  Now if somehow they made a hit a second series would probably occur but that's not happening.

I don't see how this progresses in any significant way that *doesn't* get SHIELD's attention. I mean, this shiat is what they DO.

Going with how the last AoS episode ended.. the organization may be on the government's shiat list again, and the people we know and love don't seem to be on Earth anymore.

Sounds like the same issue people had with "Star Trek: Insurrection".
