Other coach should also be fired, but let's not pretend he was canned for trying to stop racist language. He was canned for getting into a fight with the coach that required 911 to be called.

Davis says he took his concerns about the offensive language to his head coach who told him it wasn't his job to reprimand the players, then they scuffled.

I'm really confused. He was an assistant coach and it wasn't his job to reprimand players? I don't know what happened to sports, but my assistant coaches reprimanded us, made us run laps, do burpees, and on and on if we got out of line. It was expected.

Unless this is a Grey. Those guys are jerks. Reptilians and whites are actually decent.

They both should be fired for wanting to be around middle school kids.

Our coach delegated most of the discipline to the assistant coaches.

I can kind of see this issue, however, being delicate enough, (and likely to make headlines), that the head coach would expect to be given a heads-up about it.  It was probably a long-running thing.  God knows I heard it enough in my HS football days.

It is actually middle school not HS.

My team is facing roughly the same thing right.  No coach has heard it yet but two kid keeps on getting tattled for calling each other homophobic slurs, two kids always pointing their fingers at each other.  8-9 yos.  Crazy.  We have tried to discuss it and nip it in the bud but it just doesnt feel right to discipline a kid over hearsay.  It has gotten to the point where I have to babysit the line where the affected kids are... dont get to work with them that much any more.  Probably should get with the head and just have a policy if we get complaints to just dicipline the whole team, 10-15 updowns should do it, and let the boys self police, but then there is also the chance that a kid will let himself be bullied by not wanting to hurt the team...... it sucks.

He's black, BTW. So a black guy told a bunch of white kids to stop being openly racist, and the head coach assaulted him for it and defended the behavior.

If you aren't willing to punch someone in the mouth for using the n-word, you're part of the problem.

I don't know anybody who WANTS to be around middle school kids. They smell, are pretty assholish, and just generally unpleasant most of the time. Middle School jobs are always the last ones to get filled in a district except for advanced sciences and math at the high school level.

This may come as a shock to many Farkers, but some people are genuinely interested in the well-being of the next generation. I would argue that letting the next generation bang their heads together is counterproductive, but the point still stands.

No, I'd say you are part of the problem.  Punching anyone who uses the word is not likely to deter them from using the word.  The fact that you think it would is scary and fascist.

So would I be safe to punch Kanye? I'm totally willing to punch him for using the n word.

I am, too. I taught middle school for 10 years. It was pretty good once I had my veterans (the kids I'd known since K-5 get to middle school) because I teach music, so I'd get a lot of the same kids year after year. My first two years were hell on earth, though. I'm fine with elementary right now. They're not mean and awful because they don't have that adolescent angst and turmoil going on.

The assistant coach may have been asking for benching the kids for a few games, or permanent.  The head coach makes that decision.  The wrong coach got fired.

My wife teaches middles school and she likes it, just proves she is nuts (well that and the fact she is married to me for almost 30 years).  She has done everything over the years from pre-K to high school and she always used to say middle school was her favorite since the kids have started to develop logic and critical thinking skills but they haven't become bored like high school kids.  Now she hates the little hormone freaks because they have none of the wonder of elementary kids and none of the drive to get into college of a high school kid.

Hey, guess who's hiring?

https://roswellnm.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=1625

Quite the over-the-top list of requirements.

#22: "Never criticizes, admonishes or argues with head coach or any staff member within ears or eyes of players or parents."
Huh. So I guess a fistfight on the 50-yard line is right out?
