Reject that moniker, Indians.  Anytime a sporting team took that moniker, it just sowed hate and discord.  Right Cowgirl fans?

The Indians win streak, which will be largely forgotten the moment they're out of the playoffs, has apparently been responsible for curing cancer, impeaching Trump, advancing production of the Tesla Model 3, and ending the conflict between the Rebels and the Empire.

Or something.

Who said sit down and shut up? I said making us have to accept the shiatty things we've done in the past is the first step towards removing the logos. Hell, we haven't even come to terms as a nation with our notion that owning other people was a problem.

This is a larger issue than a few logos. Without addressing the core issue, all you are doing it forcing people to entrench.

It will take a real long time to fix what this country ruined as to the native people that were here first.

It will take 5 farking minutes for the baseball team to switch to a non-racist name and logo

In any case, I agree that the issue is deeper than the logos, but making logos and mascots like this not ok and phasing them out is a step towards adjusting the attitudes that make people think they're okay in the first place.

Seemed to me like there were a lot of people immediately leaving the bandwagon. The whole 108 years, when will they finally win the World Series thing was over. Maybe it was like how people collapse after running a marathon and they were too exhausted to look forward again or the fans immediately got complacent, thinking we're a sure-thing for a few years and there's no reason to get excited about April when we're going to be back in October this year.

That said, I hope we beat the Nationals, Dodgers, and Indians on the way back to another championship.

Don't be so defeatist. Treat the underlying problem before the symptoms. Chief Wahoo is a symptom. It will eventually happen. For example, all my Indians gear features the "C" logo, not the chief.

fark "eventually" Manfred and Dolan have been talking out of both sides of their mouths on this hoping it will just go away and that their weak-ass half-measure will be enough (it's not)

"we made it be the alternate hat"

"we made it the secondary logo"

"hmmm maybe they will give them an all-star game in exchange for a new name and logo"
*nope*

Forget the Cubs "getting good"-they won the Series, remember?  If that's not a Rick Sanchez portal gun timeline change, I don't know what is.

The chief is already being phased out.  The block C is slowly taking over and has gained a lot of play in the past few years.  They'll probably ditch him on the hats next year and leave him relegated to the arm sleeve patch.  I can see it completely eliminated from the uniforms around the 2020 or 2021 season, without announcement or fan fare.  Eliminating it from officially licensed merchandise will probably not be far behind.  This has been in the works for a while and they've been slow playing it to give the new logo time to gain traction.

Unfortunately there's a not unsubstantial portion of the fan base that would be up in arms if Paul Dolan came flat out and said the chief is gone next season (see "KEEP THE CHIEF" t-shirts from unofficial merchandise outlets).  Given Cleveland's attendance the past few years, they can't afford to alienate any potential paying fans, even the mouth breathers.  This needs to be done slowly.  Deliberately.  Without major announcements.  To the point where people wake up in 10 years and go, wtf happened to Chief Wahoo?

Yeah, I think this is a possibility.  Baseball is very streaky, and their luck may have run out come October.

Likewise, the Dodgers decided to suck at exactly the right time, and came out of their slump just in time to save their bacon.

The tide is already turning.  Most of the other fans I talk to have come to the understanding the the logo is racist and it needs to go.  A lot of people intentionally avoid buying merchandise with the chief on it.  It's becoming a business decision and with the pressure the league is applying, there's really no reason to keep using it.  The problem with immediately coming out and ditching him, is that there's a not unsubstantial portion of the fan base that don't see the problem and proudly wear their "KEEP THE CHIEF" t-shirts.  Normally I'd say fark 'em.  But with attendance the way it has been the past several years, alienating a decent size block of you fan base isn't a great strategy.  Slow and deliberate.

At least it's a better approach than Dan Snyder's "I have lots of Native American friends, I can leave my team name a racial slur" approach.

any of my fellow Cubs fans that are butthurt over this need a good smack upside the head. maybe it would be salt in an open wound if the Indians had won game 7. but to hate on the team they beat doing well? especially given the uncertainty the Cubs will even make the playoffs, and are unlikely to do much if they do? that's moranic. I'm not jumping on the Indians bandwagon or anything, but as a baseball fan, their streak is fun and compelling.

I actually bought a Wahoo hat at the team shop this summer.  I didn't think much of it till on vacation and I was walking in to a tribal convenience store in Cherokee and my wife made me take it off.  Actually put that logo into perspective.  Ordered a new C logo when we got back.
