I recently got a scam phone call:

Caller (terse tone):  You received a repayment offer from the Visa Mastercard Discover company last month.  Did you accept the offer?
Me: No, I never received any offer, and also, those are three different companies.
Caller: No they aren't!
Me:  And also, those companies don't actually lend any money, banks who use their cards lend the money.
Caller: (short pause) The Visa Mastercard Discover Company ....
Me (interrupting):  Doesn't exist.  I know, because I work for one of them.
Caller (authoritatively):  No you don't.

Do you really think they would be refusing if this was about convicted felons?  This is about white supremacist deporting any brown people they can find, and being convicted of an immigration related crime does not count.

I mean, when we were just deporting felons and violent people, these countries had no problem working with us, for decades, but now all of a sudden they don't want to take back anyone?  There is only one thing that has changed, and it is who Trump and Sessions are trying to send back.

No, it's trolling 102, classic misdirection and goalpost moving.
He really wants someone to ask him for his source so he can pull up that one guy that was an exception and make the entire thread about that particular case. If nobody does, he might get frustrated and just start pasting the links with a very slight bit of context.

Next he'll say misdemeanors don't count, then it will be only some felonies count, then it turns out he's just mashing it.

Well, of course.  "Convicted criminals" is one of the dogwhistle phrases.

You mean it's code for something? Like dogwhistle is code for "I have no evidence but I'm calling you a racist for daring to disagree with me."

Just in case nobody read the article - it never mentioned the words "felon" or "convicted criminals" anywhere.  And even if it had, without going into more detail of what they were convicted OF, it's hard to say much about it, since illegal immigration by itself is a felony, so calling a deportee a "felon" or "convicted criminal" doesn't mean much as their immigration status alone could be where that comes from.
Given that many of these countries are either in civil war or have regimes that routinely conscript citizens into their military or murder them outright, it seems rational (if not legal) that someone who can get out would try to do so under the justification of "I don't want to die".

I think you meant to say illegal immigration by itself is NOT a felony.

Because, you know, it isn't.

Visa overstay isn't even a crime.

And given that TFA says nothing about any criminal status, to use "convicted criminal" here to refer to these people is essentially saying "I'm a racist".

The oranges piled up
In their creosote dumps

To the Mexican border
To spend all their money
To wade back again
Good bye to my Juan
Goodbye Rosalita
Adios mis amigos Jesus why Maria
You won't have a name
When you ride the big airplane
All they will call you
Will be "deportees"
Some of us are illegal
And others not wanted
Our work contract's up
And we have to move on
Six hundred miles to that Mexican border
They chase us like outlaws
Like rustlers, like thieves
Good bye to my Juan
Goodbye Rosalita
Adios mis amigos Jesus why Maria
You won't have a name
When you ride the big airplane
All they will call you
Will be "deportees"
The skyplane caught fire
Over Los Gatos Canyon
A fireball of lightning
Shook all our hills
Who are all these friends
Who are scattered like dried leaves
The radio said
They were just "deportees"
Good bye to my Juan
Goodbye Rosalita
Adios mis amigos Jesus why Maria

BigNumber12: lack of warmth: What is your point exactly?  I simply stated illegal immigrants are committing a crime of trespassing.  I'm not going to sugar coat illegal immigrants aren't breaking some kind of law.  Not every illegal immigrant tried to obey laws after that like the media portrays, but I'm not digging that deep.  Take your rant somewhere else.

I wasn't taking aim at you. Not sure why you took that copypasta (not really a rant) personally. I was expanding on your thoughts, and addressing the very common argument (again, not yours) that illegal immigrants aren't doing anything illegal by existing. Not as such, they aren't, but for the majority, getting by in this country requires the commission of felonies, beyond the misdemeanor of "illegal entry."

When you add to a thought, start off stating you're adding to it, otherwise it seems like a counterpoint.

Because then we lose our embassy in that country and and we risk our embassies in other places.  The cost to the US of keeping around cheap labor vastly outweighs the cost to the US of losing influence, prestige, and leverage in negotiation.

Your genius plan gets rid of 8 guys this one time before every other country gets wise to your scheme and puts the kibosh on it.  In exchange for that, China and Russia gain more leverage in the world, and with the speed China is moving into Africa and Russia is moving into Eastern Europe and Central Asia, we can't afford to lose any influence.

Bad idea, guys.

The U.S. Embassy in Eritrea said in a statement that it will stop issuing business and tourism visas to Eritrean nationals, with "limited exceptions." Eritrean officials were not immediately available for comment.

This is effectively meaningless.  Eritrea is one of the few countries to require an exit visa which means anybody trying to leave the country has to get government approval.  Of course, anyone who gets out of Eritrea isn't keen to go back and so the government never issues them.  This is the country that loses its soccer team every couple of years when they defect en masse at international tournaments.  Even the few pilots they have routinely fly off to Ethiopia to get the hell out of Eritrea.

The country is effectively a prison.  This is a meaningless gesture, but I suppose it satisfies the kind of geopolitical know-nothing who will scan the headline and applaud that President Trump is gettin' tough on illegals from Eritrea who come here and and steal "their" jobs.  Unemployed coal miners can finally get that Eritrean restaurant job they've been holding out for.
