I think the Dems may have found Trump's kryptonite for his base: actually working with Dems.

at this point he probably knows he won't get re-elected or maybe he doesn't want the job anymore,he proved his point that he could be elected, so now he's working on creating as much political chaos as possible for Putin?

Someone a few months ago talked about Trump signing a single payer bill purely so he could take credit for passing some sort of healthcare bill. I thought that was stupid but now I'm not so sure.

how f*cked up is it that the only thing that might cause trumpers to abandon their leader is a slight reduction in his racism...?

But like everything else he has done since this shiatshow started, he won't realise until it is way too late. Then he will do something even more stupid, to distract everyone from it and the cycle will repeat.

All Trump cares about is that he can see, hear, and read positive press. In spite of the "failing, fake news" cries, he wants to be accepted by the "elites." My anecdotal evidence is his calls to WaPo and NYT reporters to take credit for pulling the first version of Obamacare repeal. He didn't call Hannity, he didn't call Fox.

If he finds that working with Democrats strokes his ego, he'll do it.

That doesn't mean he won't continually go off the rails. The post-Irma visit today should bring plenty of cringe worthy moments.

Trump is already walking back his comments and promises to the Democrats.  he just sent out a tweet about it.

I think i'm going to sit out Trump's visit to florida.  i'll catch the highlights on the news later tonight when I come into work.  I'm less likely to throw a shoe at my TV screen this way.

2017-09-14 06:22:09 AM
Why would you think Donald Trump (D) would work with Republicans, subby?

2017-09-14 06:23:12 AM
Let's clear up some important points.  DACA is basically the "bastard stepchild" of the DREAM act.

The DREAM act was far better and created an avenue to Legal Permanent Residence and citizenship for those brought here before 16 years of age (and met certain additional requirements).

DACA is similar to the DREAM act, but afforded no direct path to LPR status, needed to be renewed every two years, and had a cutoff date of 2007 for eligibility.

If a legislative version of DACA is the best we can get to protect these people for now? I'll take it.  But let's not pop champagne over the equivalent of asking for a new motorcycle, and instead getting a 10 year old motorized supermarket scooter.

Just because Trump is president doesn't mean everything deserves low expectations.

Ken S.: I'll believe it when it actually happens, amnesty for DACA is one of the few things which could peel his base away from him.

No it won't, I don't think anything he does will get his base to turn on him.  Anything they might disagree with, they'll just say it's him playing 4D chess, and we (the base) have no right to question it.

Yeah, I can't listen to or watch him in real time. I have to wait for transcripts. Besides, I will be at work. We have several hundred employees and several Florida locations, and I have some indirectly related recovery and restart work to do.

Why? It was always clear he never cared about the details.

If he could get a single payer bill in front of him, and bill it as a 'repeal and replace' of Obamacare, he'd be happy as a pig in shiat.

How get Trump to sign off on single payer.

1. Call it Trump-CARE.

3. In private explain despitr the name he won't have to pay for it, taxpayers will.
Done.

This. He doesnt really have (I don't think) any kind of ideology. He contradicts himself constantly.

What decision he makes at a point in time is dependent on several factors (ego, press, that last thing someone said to him, the colour of spongebob squarepant's hat, etc), only one of which is the mainstream rightwing agenda.

The stars have aligned in such a way on this occasion that he's doing something good, that leftwing people want. But he's so unpredictable that I think it's impossible to say whether it will happen again.

I highly doubt they did. The base still hates Trump and will still impeach him at the first opportunity. This is more about tweaking the Republicans and fractuting their support.

I wouldn't be if I were them. No matter how this ends up going, they've gained.

1. They've forced Trump to explicitly support protecting the Dreamers. This has infuriated his base.
2. If he backs out on the deal the Democrats can say "Look we tried to work with Trump for the good of the country, but he wasn't honest and reneged." It entirely undercuts the "obstructionist" rhetoric the Republicans have been relying on.

Trump got played by pros.

It really is great stuff.

And in a kind of equivalent situation over here... the horrible reactionary rightwing DUP that May gave a billion to, to prop up her wobbly government, have voted against her to lift the pay cap on the NHS!

Who'd have thunk it?

IF this is true that Trump is in favor of the Dream Act, in direct violation of his repeated promises, THEN PATRIOTS IT IS TIME TO TREAT TRUMP THE SAME WAY WE TREATED OBAMA. WE WILL FIGHT HIM, MAKE HIM A ONE TERM FAILURE, AND GO TO ALL OUT POLITICAL WAR AGAINST THE FILTHY FAT ****!! Get on the phones tomorrow to the White House and every member of Congress and scream your absolute HELL NO to amnesty to them!

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Press Secretary already DENIED it in a Tweet! 10:21 p.m. Sept 13, 2017
"While DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to."
Said there was a DISCUSSION, NO AGREEMENTS!
She specifically said the Wall is "CERTAINLY NOT OFF THE TABLE!"

The Democrats are in like a reverse Kobayashi Maru here. I don't see how they can lose. Any outcome is a win for them.

Trump plays ball, DACA passes GOP Congress and signed into law: Major policy win. Conservative base splinters in anger.

Trump plays ball, DACA fails to clear GOP Congress and expires: Conservative base splinters in anger; business/moderate conservatives enraged; Democrats handed highly emotional 2018 issue that's already proven so explosive even Trump refused to touch it; Trump-GOP relationship massively ruptured.

Trump plays ball, DACA fails to clear GOP Congress but Trump renews it by executive action: Conservative base splinters in anger; Trump-GOP relationship massively ruptured; Obama policy restored and no substantive damage caused.

Trump flip-flops back to anti-DACA, DACA fails to clear GOP congress and expires: Moderate and business conservatives enraged; Democrats handed 2018 issue that's already proven so explosive Trump has been unable to do anything but blow helplessly in the wind.
