I'm in L.A. and last time it was a nightmare for the locals. Yes there were good parts of the Games for us.

The traffic in L.A. has hit the tipping point since then and distance is now measured in units of time.  Nobody I know is happy about this.

What a waste of taxpayer funds. LA just built a new football stadium, now they have to build this shiat.

"Awarded".

I think the only awards will go to contractors and financial brokers. Everyone else gets a participation trophy in the form of taking it full-force in the asshole with a sandpaper condom.

Kill the Olympics and jail the IOC.

There might be one in San Diego they can use.

TFA:
Paris and Los Angeles had been the only two candidates for the 2024 Games after Hamburg, Rome and Budapest withdrew from the race.
The IOC voted in June to award the 2028 Games at the same time as 2024.

Two candidates for two spots.

I think 99% of the cities in the world have finally figured this thing out.

If memory serves me correctly, I believe the games in LA were the last ones that made money.  Of course, they were headed up by Peter Ueberoth who, love him or not, knew a thing or two about getting things done.

LA sounds big enough to handle this without building a lot of new stuff. It's not like they'll need new stadiums.

Now lets all take bets on which one will lose more taxpayer money doing it.

I'm amused at the thought of people trying to get to the game events in and amongst the usual LA standstill-traffic.   Fortunately the TV coverage is always good if one wants to watch such things.

My grandma was heavily involved with the '32 games in LA and the volunteer effort for the '84 games.  If she hadn't died in 2002 this would probably make her keep going until 2028...

Yeah that drive down the 5 to go to the games there from LA will be loads of fun.

If you enjoy parking lots.

Traffic on the 101 will be like oh my god.

It'll be a wasteland by the time I get there.

Paris, get over it.  No one likes you anymore.  You're like the Boston of the world, stuck up in your history and rotten at the core.  You deserve this snub.  Go away.

Also not sure about the dupicate.

This news has been known for a while, but today was the official announcement.  A bit like a Presidential convention.  We know who it's going to be but it's still a separate event.

Thanks. I know I can't be the only one who's sick of watching the IOC pull a FIFA. In fact, if soccer (sorry, "football") wasn't so goddamned popular, more of us would be condemning them as much as the IOC and for the same f*cking shenanigans.
