The article seems to imply the pagan ritual was a bad thing.  This country was founded on paganism, and it is what has made our country great.

Many years ago I worked in an office with a window overlooking an interior atrium. On the other side of the atrium were similar offices. As it so happens it afforded me an excellent view of another company's copier room.

One day I'm on the phone I turn around glancing out the window I see three women early in their 20s dancing and gyrating around the copier in  some ritual meant to free up a paper jam or something.

I was absolutely entranced by the secret ritual I was witnessing. I will never know if they got their copiesbecause after a moment they noticed me and scattered laughing all the while.

Wait. What were we talking about?

In my excessively limited Wiccan experiences, their twine is usually rustic jute-y stuff or purple velvet.

Amazon doesn't have any results for 'Wiccan twine.'

In all seriousness, I just had some experience with making sage smudge a couple months ago. The sage bushes were over-growing their area in my garden and I didn't want to waste it. I didn't know a lot about making them so I asked my Wiccan friends about it. One had an old book with a great illustrated section on it. The only suggestion for the twine was to use something made from cotton. I had butchers twine and cotton thread sitting around so I tried both of those. The twine would burn ahead of the rate of combustion of the sage and the smoldering sage and twine would fall off. The thread burned too fast and the smudge just kinda loosened up and expanded. I eventually found a heavier upholstery thread at a fabric store that worked best. Sometimes it will leave a few charred threads dangling after the smudge burns past it but it didn't have the fire hazard potential of the other options I'd tried.

TL/DR I have no idea wtf Wiccan twine is even though I think I probably would have encountered it in my experience.

I'm even more confused as I've realized, by her description, you have the Native American ritual smudging with Sage. Demons being 'exercised' seems kind of Catholic-y and yet it was a "Pagan Ceremony"?!? I wonder if she will ever pick a direction and go that way?

THAT'S why I'm confused! Everything seems so muddled, maybe it's the way the writer presented it. There were a couple of times I wasn't quite sure who exactly the writer was referring to with the generous use of "they". Maybe that's how the offended woman explained it? Fark it, I'm just going to bed, I'll think tomorrow.

Like a lot of other people, I'm wondering what's with the Wiccan twine? Is there Native American twine, too? Does every culture that uses smudging have their own twine, or do some of them share?

Company I used to work for, they'd send out things in the weekly notice/paperwork packet like reasons you're happy to be a Christian, etc. I don't know about pagans, but I know one of my fellow store managers was Jewish; always wondered how she felt about that stuff.

All told, though, even if any of this happened, it wasn't "copier company", it was some dicks at the office -- not an uncommon thing. Given the prevalence of such dicks, something resembling what she claims (minus the weird bit about the string) very well might have happened. The court case will be interesting.

And the managers gets three stars as an ignorant idiot, as well as a PoS. For one, "exorcising demons' is a Christian thing. For another, smudging?  In an office? Is this *intended* to set off the fire alarms, and maybe the sprinklers?

And I love how this maroon things Native Americans are ALL into smudging. Yep. Esquimos and those in the far north are into it... and, like an idiot textbook I had once, which noted that All Native Americans venerated tobacco, including those folks who'd never seen it.

This guy really is Dilbert's boss.
