FTA: Nimmo also noticed that the bots seemed to be triggered by some key words, so he put several of the triggers in a tweet along with the user name of the Twitter support team.
Tens of thousands of the bots retweeted the message, exposing themselves to Twitter support. In less than two days, more than 70,000 appeared to have been taken offline. However, Nimmo and other experts say there could be millions of automated accounts still operating on the social network.

Hey, should be only two, three more years of standing around mutely with their thumbs up their asses before Twitter bravely announces that they're looking into the possibility of investigating it one day.

I doubt he has a spare billion lying around.  Try the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  They do amazing stuff, but long term this might even be worth it (over what they are spending on now).

We can do anything they can do, most likely even better.

The real problem is that the Kremlin is behind this. They're doing it with a purpose for their government and country. Our top basement dwellers are politically divided, and would never work together for our government. So they either work for Google or just stay home and dox some movie star for posting something pro-PETA.

I am trying to burn my noodle figuring out what actual none sociolgy research twitter would be useful for.

That said. My google-foo is starting to fail. The noise to data ratio is becoming too damn high.  I have actually used eBay pics to find decent data. Although I'm searching for 30 year old electrical equipment information, resellers and their pictures seem to work the best.

Almost 20 years in my industry. Building remodel. Contractor gave me panel pics (i have to input specific circuit breaker data) after a half hour of searching, I found SQ-D   Manufactured the breakers for westinghouse. They have been obscelete since the Kennedy administration.

/yeah I know. You are reading this as a WTF are you talking about. I am entertaining myself while I feed our foster kitten. So kitten pic.

Research is definitely way too far, but it and other social media where the scoop is before a real article can be written about it or when none will ever be written (ex. obscure band going on tour).  Just stay away from the comments and random bozos.

It's really a shame that Twitter will never fulfill its full potential of saving homeowners 5 dollars a month by notifying their water heaters and air conditioners of discounted rates during low electrical demand/oversupply periods.  Just think of where that money could've been put to use.

At it's best, twitter is the internet version of bumper stickers. When stuck in traffic, it can be entertaining to see that one crazy-guy car slathered with bumper stickers. Then your mind wanders to how the driver apparently thinks those slogans and snippets are profound enough that they needed to be shared. It's a scary realization.
