I think this suggests that HBO and their attorneys are digging in and preparing to eviscerate Bob in court. I can't imagine they would renew the show if they though they stood a chance of losing, thereby encouraging other humorless fark-nuggets to sue them as well.

I really hope HBO cites FOX v Franken just to twist the knife a little bit more.

I'm sure they have to take a fair bit of time to do their research.  And 30-35 shows a year instead of 50 means better quality material.

Don't forget the yelling of the punchline twice while the audience applauds, following with "but the point is..."

I just love that in between calling out all of the horrible things happening in the country and the world, he still finds time to give Ciscoe, a local television personality in here Seattle, the national audience he deserves for being an awesomely positive person.

It's not like firing Oliver would somehow make the lawsuit go away. In fact firing him could be interpreted as some kind of acknowledgement of wrong doing.

Anyway, it's not good at all for HBO that the case is stuck in state court.

I've only seen one full episode and it was on the Puerto Rico debt crisis.

He falsely asserted that forcing losses on creditors (including pensioners) of Puerto Rico by changing existing law was not a "bailout".

As a Canadian who has become bored with Trump, this week's show took me all of 3 minutes to FF through looking for non-political humour.

He's successful I'll give you that.  Preaching to an idiot choir can be lucrative, whether that choir is right or left leaning.

Also you are right it's not news.  However the idiots who watch him seem to absorb his commentary as factual news.  In that way he's have a negative impact on the world.

But he swears a lot, so he's got that going for him which good.

Debeo Summa Credo: Also you are right it's not news. However the idiots who watch him seem to absorb his commentary as factual news

No, they don't.  Conservative twatwaffles claim this all the time, but no one watches them as news sources.  Same with the Daily Show or any of the other similar shows.  They watch them as commentary.  At the same time, people watch Fox News and read Breitbart and directly and openly claim they're news.

Debeo Summa Credo: In that way he's have a negative impact on the world.

He's entertaining, and manages to do it actually saying things that are factually accurate.  That's what he (and others like him) delivers.  They're not on news stations, they don't have degrees or backgrounds in journalism.  They're comedians, through and through.  They use current events as their material.  That's it.

You're spinning fantasies to serve your beliefs.

This, but I don't think it's "time off" so much as it is that his shows are rather dense in terms of their research, and require time to properly investigate their subjects.

It would be nice, however, if he'd do more than 4 shows in a row during the second half of a calendar year...

No.  they could always "negotiate with their creditors".  Changing a law making it easier or possible for PR to declare bankruptcy would put PR in a better negotiating position, adversely affecting creditors.

Agreed. Any "news" program that results in people sending in 'seed' donations is doing something right, hilarious.

Those segments were brilliant, reminded me of when Colbert created the SuperPAC to highlight how buggered that system is.
