Flaumig: Well, Jobs did make it easier for morons to think they're tech savvy, so one could argue that he helped usher in the current era of, "we don't need none of them 'experts' tellin us what to do."

Actually, it was the era of I don't want to become tech savyv, I just want to be able to do what I need to do.

There were people (I'll explain what they are later if you need) that wanted to use computers to do creative things, as opposed to simply to use techy-stuff. That was rather revolutionary. They were opposed by professionals schooled in the prevention of the use of technology that wanted everything to require professionals in the use of technology who would someday explain to the Bob's that they have "people skills" despite evidence to the contrary.

Eventually the prevention of the use of technology people won with the aid of Micro$oft and the cycle of ever updating technical certification programs for ever changing insecurity protocols and hopelessly cludgy compiler packages crafted by --- wait for it --- Micro$oft. That and absolutely clueless CFOs who pressed both penny-wise pound foolish policies and "I must control things" culture. Well, that and Apple's attachment to insanely unrealistic profit margins.

No. The revolution started with the internet itself. Smartphones just made it mobile, genius.

What smart phones did was make the internet accessible and affordable to non tech savvy people. Just like the printing press.

Windows phones have different sized, and shaped, tiles on the homepage because their users choose what size and shape they want them, where they are, what information, if any, they show.

That's just an Info button for the image.

The larger image in the original tweet shows it, but I don't know which Twitter client would give that info. None that I have used do, though I'm not much of a Twit.

What a shiat article. Apple did not invent the internet, smartphones, or social media. As recently as February, Apple still only had 44% market share in the US for smartphones. 45 was a creature first of television (the main addiction of him and his rubes), then of social media (to which Apple is incidental, at best).
Then the whole superdelegates saved Hillary bullshiat. As if she didn't get millions more votes than Bernie. Had to close it after. WaPo opinion section is usually better than that.

zedster: Because you know Father Coughlin needed the internet

Actually, yes he did. His listeners were a bunch of frightened people essentially marooned in their little ponds of hate. They never got their guys elected POTUS.

Social media allows the little hate ponds to talk to each other and form hate lakes and even hate seas, enough mobilization to help get their guy elected. It wasn't the only, or even the biggest cause of November's fiasco, but it helped tip the balance.

Good inventions falling into the wrong hands.

I can't find where I read it before, but I read that Android now has a larger installed base than all other OSes of all types (not just mobile, but also desktop, server, embedded devices, etc.) combined! Yes, that includes the once-great Windows, and the former #1 embedded system VxWare which almost everyone used to have at least one device with (including, for instance automobile systems, smart entertainment systems, music keyboards, etc.) without knowing it. Much of this is due to the IoT, nearly all of which runs Android.

Android has also surpassed Windows in the number of browsers accessing the Internet as of April. In mobile market share, Android has over well 80%, with iOS at something like 17%, Windows at 0.3%, and Blackberry OS rounding to 0.0%. Even counting desktop, Android surpassed Windows back in April.

you could argue radio was the internet of its day and I would buy that. I would argue to your point that the outbreak of NAZIism in Europe was the ultimate reductio ad absurdum to some of the social Darwinism and racism in the US. Hitler made supporting many of those ideas too hot so they fell off. Even then Jews could move into the suburbs after the war but not get into schools and country clubs and blacks were still sterilized by states into the 70s.

History doesn't repeat itself but it often rhymes and similar ideas to the 30's are bubbling back up for similar reasons period of booming economic growth (20's, 90's) followed by bust (29' into the 30s, 2007-now). People want to know why the economy crashed and they don't have jobs. Couldn't be anything they did so must be a ((conspiracy))

It's bullshiat.  There are only two reasons Trump is president.  The lesser reason is that the US electoral system is backwards and anachronistic (how else can a popular vote win equal a loss?).  The bigger reason is that the US electorate is ignorant and stupid on too large of a scale to function competently.
