In case anyone wants to know the bottom line.

When asked by an audience member whether he would back censuring Trump, Ryan said he would not back such a measure, adding that the issue cannot devolve into a partisan fight.

When asked how he reconciled the words and the actions of the current administration when talking to his children, Ryan said that he tries to lead by example.

It didn't sound like moral equivocation.
It was moral equivocation.
Repeated moral equivocation.
"He was only accidentally racist, over and over and over!"

It would not a partisan issue if the GOP would condemn support for farking Nazis.  Nazis.

To Ryan, condemning equivocation in opposition to NAZIS is partisan.

He's not qualified to be Speaker at Rotary lunch.

I love how doing something to punish someone for actual wrongdoings is "partisan," if they are Republican.

1. "Messed up" is "clear and unsparing criticism"?

2. A week after it happened?

3. Shouldn't he lead the effort to keep Republican Nazi sympathizing "under his hat" to show that he's part of "the family"?

Spineless little pigf*cker.

"So are we sure? The polling numbers are in? We've done the focus groups? Talked to everyone in the party caucus? We've reviewed projections for the midterms? Somebody has searched all of the news archives with that algorithm? Are we really, REALLY sure that it's a good idea to say that Trump didn't handle Charlottesville in the best possible way? I don't want to look like a clueless idiot."

Yeah, I've got to say, that hardly counts as a condemnation.

Trump's comments were messed up, no question, but he did not mess them up: he said exactly what he meant to. He's just that vile.

And the answer is 'because we still think we can control him, and we're going to lay the blame for every shiatty thing we do at his feet regardless.'

The real answer is that to raise his comments to the level of an impeachable offense, you have to do two things at the same time: recognize the Charlottesville attackers as terrorist groups, and recognize the Global War on Terror as a legitimate and valid war. Do both of these, and Trump was overtly giving aid and comfort to the enemy in front of thousands of witnesses, and you've nailed him.

The problem is doing both. Getting someone to recognize either one is easy: there probably isn't a person in Congress who doesn't recognize one of them. Hell, Trump himself recognizes one of them. No issues there. But especially in these polarized times, getting someone to recognize both at once borders on impossible. I'm not sure I can really do it either, considering all the implications. But it would work.

Not to win elections.  Republican voters will never turn on Trump enough to not vote Republican.  The only hope is getting non-voters off their asses and getting them to vote Democratic.

My oldest is 5, middle 2, and youngest 3 months.  I'd love to say it gets better, but I just spent from midnight to 3am having our 5 year wake us up in bed, fall asleep in our bed, pee our bed, clean her and our bed up, get her back asleep and transferred,  and then going back to sleep myself.  Good thing i get up at 6 for work because the 3 month old started crying at 545.  Oh, and the 2 year old was up twice while we were up so that was lucky since he didn't wake us.

I don't sleep much anymore is what I'm saying.

Conservative parenting:
Go head and hang out with the big smelly loud mean kid with matches and gasoline who says horrible things about your mother. If you don't he might say mean things about you, too. And his friends might not like you anymore.

I want someone to follow around conservatives and slowly parse their statements for them so they see how insane they are.
