I'm lost, adrift in a sea without a permanent port to call home.

But these threads are awesome, so I'll still stick around. And cheer on Donnel Pumphrey for as long as he has a career.

Uncle Eazy: Seriously. Who GAF about preseason?

Exactly. Last year after a 12 year NFL hiatus, and in an attempt to find mediocrity, I decided to follow the San Diego team. I might even have been heard to utter 'Go Chargers!', at least 5 times.

And then they did.

/Go, newest Los Angeles NFL franchise!

Don't worry, the Dolphins added a clause to Cutlers contract that costs him $500,000 for each pick 6 he throws this season, so they should make a tidy profit off the deal.

bleh.  silly at this point.  BUT THAT SAID.......

10?  I figured a 15-18 would be about right (ARI).  Too many defensive losses, yes a strong running game, but a old ass Palmer that i don't think finishes the season.  I think a 10 win season would be an achievement but 8-8 wouldn't shock me.  I just don't think we're really built for the long haul.

and i was joking last week but I really wonder if, if the Cards are in a 2-5 type swoon going into the trade deadline, if we don't flip Fitzy.  he's saying all the right things about finishing his career here but, this his 14th NFL season and he desperately wants to put the cap on his career with a ring.  If NE, OAK, PIT (an NFC team would shock me) comes calling with the right price, i wonder.  complete speculation but i've been saying for years, even in the lean years, i've been mildly surprised we haven't moved him.

I'm just happy Trubisky impressed in his first preseason action. If he came out looking like Cutler or Grossman, I would have had that urpy taste in my mouth.

/it would be very Browns for them to pass on a QB from Ohio and have him go on to success elsewhere

The Bestest: Preseason power rankings are lunacy on their face, and I refuse to be a party to this madness.

Eh, injuries and last minute roster moves go a long way in determining how a team does during the season. I don't think these rankings are a reflection of the actual play so much as those two factors.

2017-08-15 05:19:35 PM
Dallas' schedule is pretty rough, with Zeke out at least four games (I expect 6), and now tape to study Dak... I think they'll be lucky to go 3 - 3 to start the season.  Shocking I know, but they may end up with around an 8 - 8 record. :>o

I also think old Bill should make something up and bench Tom for the first four games of the season, let Garoppolo get some 'deer in the headlights' time, make adjustments to the offensive line, and rest Tom's knees and back.  He looked much fresher come playoff time last year.

Sorry to 'Columbo' the thread, but another thing!!!!

After several NBA coaches started resting players - especially on back to back games - it was a bad look for the league and they are making changes; it needed to be done.

That being said:  I'm all for starting second string at least for the the first half of all Thursday night games.

It's only one game, son. A pre-season game. Against second- and third-stringers on D.

However... he did look the part. And he definitely made the throws, some of which were actually difficult. If he does that again Saturday, I will officially start paying attention.

Oh for sure I've hit the brakes on Trubiskymania. It was simply watching a quarterback for the Bears put the ball exactly where it needed to be on most of his throws that was amazing to me. I'm so used to Grossman's lollypops and Cutler's ability to hit his receiver's knees that it was alarming.

That blurb was typical lazy ESPN, there are 12 teams that have $19 million or more in salaries for one quarterback. I still don't get why the Bears get mocked for trying to get the best available free agent QB and highest rated QB in the draft.

Not that I don't agree with you partially, but I think it's because they didn't tell Mike Glennon what their plans were so they created a controversy where there shouldn't be one. On top of that, they invited him to the draft party at Soldier Field and he still didn't know. It's like if you're in high school and a woman was like, "Go to prom with me!" And you're all, "Yeah! I'm totally into that!" And on the way there she's like, "We gotta stop off somewhere on the way." And you're all like "Cool, yeah, that's fine." And you're sitting in the limo, and it pulls up to a house, and another guy in a tux comes out, gets in, and sits next to her. You'd be liie, "WTF?!" And she's all, "I'm just increasing my odds to make sure I have the right guy." Should people getting paid millions to do a job feel like that? Easy to say no on the outside, but they're still people.

Eh larger point, maybe you don't like Trub or Glennon. Say you pay Kaep like $12 million (He is looking for 10 and let's throw a signing bonus proration) and then draft either Watson or Mahomes at 3 if you think they are better prospects. Drafting Kizer at the top of the second saves a couple million more. The ESPN blurb still is roughly the same, it is just lazy reporting.

If Chicago keeps Hoyer and then drafts someone like Peterman in the mid rounds then I imagine the ESPN blurb is that the Bears are not trying to figure out their QB problems.

Glennon took a deal that was essentially for one year. In interviews before the draft, he knew the bears were going to draft a QB. Was he surprised by the Bears taking a QB at 2? Sure. Should he have been? Not sure on that one.
