It should be mandatory to remind people of Trump's war record every time he comments on a military issue

Yeah, ask the Russians how to win in Afghanistan.

"Our commanders-in-chief, not our commanders in the field, are responsible for this failure," he added, referring to Trump and former President Barack Obama.

But not former President George W. Bush, who is responsible for getting us into this mess in the first place.

Nope. The Afghanistan war was going great until Obama showed up.

Oh.  McCain slammed both Trump *and* Obama with one statement.  Far out.

THANKS, OBAMA!

Gorka's the last person to listen to about this. He knows he's going to be out on his ass if McMaster doesn't get "promoted" to Afghanistan and wins his power struggle with Bannon.

Further demonstrating that none of them understand F-all about Afghanistan or its history. If they had even the faintest glimmer of the circumstances, context, or past, we would not have gone in and we would have gotten out as soon as possible.

What a damn mess.

Why the Fark are we still in Afghanistan?
The only way we win this type of war in this dirt hole part of the world is to install a brutal puppet  government.

"Eight years of a 'don't lose' strategy has cost us lives and treasure in Afghanistan. Our troops deserve better," McCain said in a statement.

Treasure? Be me matie McCain a pirate now? Arrrrr....
What farking "treasure" is he talking aboot? Does he ride the horse or something?

In the absence of an administration policy on Afghanistan, McCain, the Republican chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said Monday he would work to produce a strategy for winning the conflict in September.

Oh, yeah... great! We have the old guy who went to the hospital because of lethargy, difficulty focusing mentally and blurry vision (which turns out to be a tumor) drafting strategy for "winning" a "war" that no one has in over 100 years. Maybe he should consult Kushner?

Then they remind him of his election claim that he had a plan to win in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We need to get the fark out.

There is no 'win' for the US in Afghanistan.

Ow! That was my feelings!: We need to get the fark out.

There is no 'win' for the US in Afghanistan.

Well, we could offer top price for all the opium and morphine base, turn the Taliban into our dope growing and harvesting force, and make them  ( and us) all rich peddling heroin to a grateful world.
It would be highly profitable, and have the added perk of being more moral and ethical than 90% of our policy in that part of the world.

Referring to the sum total of money material and other investments required for and consumed by warfare is traditionally referred to in this context as 'treasure',  which is hardly ever referred to without having the lives sacrificed mentioned in the same breath.

Written by Hunter S. Thompson...

"We are going to punish somebody for this attack, but just who or where will be blown to smithereens for it is hard to say. Maybe Afghanistan, maybe Pakistan or Iraq, or possibly all three at once. Who knows? Not even the Generals in what remains of the Pentagon or the New York papers calling for war seem to know who did it or where to look for them.

This is going to be a very expensive war, and Victory is not guaranteed--for anyone, and certainly not for a baffled little creep like George W. Bush. All he knows is that his father started the war a long time ago, and that he, the goofy child President, has been chosen by Fate and the global Oil industry to finish it off."

cretinbob: Yeah, ask the Russians how to win in Afghanistan.

I've heard it claimed the Brits knew how best not to lose in Afghanistan.  Take the passes and ignore the cities (this is a problem if you don't want terrorist attacks in the cities).  But holding the passes is key, and the cities aren't really possible to hold.

McCain appears to be linking Obama (despised by Republicans) with Trump (love by too many Republicans).

In all honesty, GWB messed up by invading Afghanistan AND not fully occupying and pacifying the country, to include dealing with Pakistan supporting the Talbain directly. Obama was caught with expanding our military commitment and similar issues (but he did kill OBL, hiding in plain sight in Pakistan.

Trump is just stupid, comparing a war in a primitive, isolated SW Asia country to a NYC restaurant renovation.

/What a maroon.
//BTW, we needed to invade Afghanistan due to 9/11 attacks.
///The problem afterwards is what do you do with a weak, poor, primitive, isolated SW Asia country  then?
////Most likely it's a win-lose situation.

So, the financial/material cost of waging war, other than the human lives ended or destroyed. "Treasure" is certainly more palatable, so that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation, now I have another reason to look askew at politicians.
