If the Lightning win this year, maybe then the Devil Rays will complete the trifecta in '05 and take the World Series.
One can dream, can't they?

2004-05-22 10:15:20 PM
Has Tampa Bay even had snow fall since the end of the last ice age? WTF are they doing with a hockey team?

2004-05-22 10:16:16 PM
Actually in '05 it can slosh over to Orlando and the Magic can get thir act together with Grant Hill actually playing. '06 will then be the year of the Devil Rays.

Oh, and to answer your second question Code_Archeologist, they are playing beautiful hockey and winning.

ARGH! Crap.

Well, the power play KILLED my Flyers. Go Canada.

2004-05-22 10:50:42 PM
Now that we are going to play for the Cup everyone might start to give the Lightning some respect! They have been great this season and deserve it. GO BOLTS!!!

2004-05-22 11:25:42 PM
Damn straight, the Lightning get little, if any, respect in the media. Maybe we can get some respect now.

For what it's worth, pretty much everyone on ESPN is picking Tampa to beat Calgary.

Though, from what I recall, pretty much everyone picked San Jose, Detroit, and Vancouver to beat Calgary too.

2004-05-23 12:22:23 AM
Tampa Bay dosen't deserve a hockey franchise. I mean, honestly. Tampa Bay? I am still in shock that they have a football AND baseball team. Florida in general is just a cesspool of suck. Let's annex 'em STAT.

2004-05-23 12:22:56 AM
Well, that settles it. Philly's sports teams are like a hot girlfriend you wanks you till you nearly cum, then chops off your willy with a rusted spoon.

"For what it's worth, pretty much everyone on ESPN is picking Tampa to beat Calgary."

It's not worth much

Go Calgary.

Tampa is the shiattiest team in hockey!

And yet you keeping having it sewn back on, just so you can go back for more...

ESPN also took no stock in the Flyers ability to win a game, let alone the series.

Spiffy? Please.

Hate to say it, but go Canada.

There is this magical thing called 'refrigeration'. It can make water really hard and cold, also known as ice. Go to your kitchen to see an example of refrigeration in action. Isn't science neat?

POTVIN SUCKS!

2004-05-23 12:31:13 AM
Ugh.

An oversized stripmall and trailer park doesn't deserve sports franchises....let alone good ones.

Foiled again by Tampa...grr...sounding awfully familiar.

As for all the cheers for the NHL getting a team from the southeast (cough...again) in the finals being good for the sport...it didn't do a damn thing in 96 (Panthers...gee who did they beat in the east finals grr), and won't do a thing this time. The league's tried this whole southeast angle for years...hell thats why we have a calgary team in the finals.

The sport coulda used a big market city in the finals this year. All due respect to Calgary and Tampa.

Go Calgary.

First Flame to send St. Louis (Mr. Slasher...tried taking Zhamnov's hand off...Lady Bing Finalist my ass) out of the game gets my eternal gratitude.

Fear the frozen tundra of Tampa Bay...

2004-05-23 12:33:36 AM
Ah, the Flyers. Choked when it counted. Just like the Eagles. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Hell, we'd be lucky of the Philies make the playoffs this year.

Oh, I fully respect the team in Tampa Bay. What I don't respect is a city full of "playoff-born hockey fans" who only cheer for their team because they happen to be winning right now. Kinda like what happened with the Florida Panthers.

Three reasons to pull for Calgary in the finals:

1) No Canadian team has been to the finals for something like 12 years. How great would it be for the first Canadian team to lift cup in a decade not to be the arrogant punks from Toronto but instead the Flames.

2) If the Flames win this series they will be the first team ever under the current playoff system to have beaten 4 of the 6 division winners, which is the most possible (3 from the west and 1 from the east)

3) When the Flames win, Canadian girls go wild and show their boohies.

It's official: Hockey is now every bit as popular as Arena Football. All hail America's 10th most popular sport!

For you flames fan, you might find this of interest. Here is the Arenavision for the Forum. It is live during practice and pregame. Right now they are converting over for tomorrow's Arena Football game.

WOOOHOOO! that was a bad ass series. some of you yuppie homos lost some money on that one, eh?

now if only they can avoid being trounced by iginlia.

2004-05-23 12:38:18 AM
wydok,

No offense, but the flyers couldn't win an ECF game 7 in their own building a couple years ago, what makes you think the flyers could win on one the road? Teams rarely lose a game 7 at home.

/go Devils

Heh...2000. Now that was painful.

Though that was the only time I've ever cheered for a devils player.

Scott Stevens after he leveled that crybaby Lindros...Can't believe we gave Forsberg (and some others) up for him and his pain in the ass father.

lawrence-

you're right. hockey is really underated. i personally think all sports are teh gay but hockey. what other sport gets a TWO MINUTE "time-out" for bashing eachother in the face? soccer gives a red-card, football even gives a fine... hockey is bad ass.

"Has Tampa Bay even had snow fall since the end of the last ice age? WTF are they doing with a hockey team?"

Good question. But considering they only have, what, 5 American players and the rest are from Canada or Europe I think that answers your question. This is not Canada vs US. It's Canada ve Canada.

2004-05-23 12:41:02 AM
despite my ill-feelings toward bobby clarke, i was really pushing for the flyers. they played a great series... oh well.

/go flames

It would NEVER succeed, but it would make more sense to have a pro hockey team in Seattle than in Floridouchenozzle. Go T-Birds.

Lightning get little respect from the media? Are you serious? Did you even listen to the broadcasters? All they said this entire series was Tampa Bay this and Tampa Bay that. Not much good things were said about the Flyers. It seems like ESPN really hates the Flyers for some reason. I remember in the '97 final it was the exact same thing.

2004-05-23 12:48:13 AM
I try not to

Speaking as a Tampa Bay native and longtime hockey fan (I also played at one point)....I can completely understand why hockey isnt popular here. We are in FLORIDA...hardly anybody grew up playing hockey here. People really dont understand hockey in Tampa as much as they do up north. It also doesnt help that the Lightning havn't performed consistantly well in a very long time either. I love seeing an interest in the sport from a new audience. GO LIGHTNING!

2004-05-23 12:48:33 AM
so, what are all the hockey fans going to do during the lockout next season?

A Rangers-Kings Final may have saved hockey, but Tampa-Calgary is the nail in the coffin. Sorry bout that, I truly am.

/likes hockey, no haters please

2004-05-23 12:49:12 AM
I've gotta make the drive from gainesville to tampa to watch the finals. If only i had money to get tickets....

mullethead? I would have thought you would have commented on my choice of favourite hockey team first.

2004-05-23 12:54:01 AM
Tampa Bay winning the cup will defenitely bruise the NHL's chance of coming out of the CBA with a fresh and marketable product. I was rooting for philly, so no matter what, the NHL would come out looking atleast like a fair product before it went into the trenches with the NHLPA for a long while. I dont think alot of people are going to care if you guys pull it out;

HOWEVER, i like how you play the game and this bold new direction Tortorella is taking his team into

Sorry TB fans, but you aren't a media hub, and as much as you want to be, you aren't Canadian

I'm so sorry =(

I think all can be forgiven under two conditions

1) "Shoeless Joe" the Finals,
or
2) Allow yourselves to be absorbed into the Rangers franchise

pleeeeeeeease? Take one for the team and do it for hockey's sake
