in case anyone missed the subtext here: if you don't kiss the ring and kneel before trump then you WILL pay a heavy price for daring to defy the throne.

because mindless obedience to central authority has always made america great again, right guys?

I'm finding the slavish hero worship of Trump really weird.

First of all, there's the ordinary people Trump fans, who say objectively untrue things like 'he's the best president we've ever had', or 'he's doing a great job'. I mean... even if you don't buy into any of the Russia stuff, those claims are demonstrably false.

But then the ass kissing from senators and people in the administration is really odd. Even the most craven, corrupt of them must have some inkling what good looks like. They can't possiby believe what they're saying. So why are they falling over themselves to say it?! It ain't N korea after all... you're not going to get thrown in a dungeon and never released, if you just don't say anything. It's an emperor's new clothes situation that I just don't get.

It's strange to me.. but then in order to be a Republican, you have to believe in a rather long list of demonstrably false things in the first place.

Honestly? The only thing that makes sense to me is they're some of the rubes that believe Trump's claims about his net worth and want to secure a post gove apocalypse gig for themselves and feel like fellating him now might help.

Which of course is hilarious because if somehow he survives financially post presidency it will be due to his salary he said he'd never take, and he doesn't seem like the type that feel he owes anyone anything.

They also likely know his presidency is signaling the end of the GOP as we know it and are desperate to hold on to what little power and influence they have remaining.

It's because they know Trump is the first step in the process of dismantling this country so it can be rebuilt as an authoritarian regime. Even if Trump isn't the man who ends up declaring themselves President-For-Life when it's all said and done, whoever it is will look fondly on those who enabled his rise to power. These people are just getting ahead of the game and engraciating themselves to the upcoming order.

i would think that not many days go past when he isn't considering at least one person ruing going against whatever his preferred position is

in the future, if we're all hooked up to computers reading our minds, there will probably be a ruing scale, with the amount of times per day you think about how much other people will be ruing the day they went against you equating to your level of conservatism

You have to adjust your perspective. For the ordinary Trumper, all that matters is they're seeing a lot of angry libs. To them, that means Trump is doing something right. The angrier the libs, the better the president.

For the Senators and Representatives, he's 'Our Guy', whether they originally wanted him or not. And Republicand have to support Their Guy, because to do otherwise would be admitting they were wrong. And that is simply Not Done.
