Deeply concerned about the outcome of this case...

Soul Murder would be a great 1960s period whodunit set in the Hitsville USA building where Motown recorded everything.

/spoiler: Little Stevie Wonder did it, because no one suspects the blind kid.

If you have money there will always be a lawyer who's willing to take your case no matter how absurd it is.

Richard Dreyfuss can finally get justice:

"Your Honor, [points to a scar on chest] Mary Ellen Moffat. She broke my heart."

You don't become a celebrity with enough money to be sued for $60M without sacrificing a few souls along the way.

That's as bad as when Amanda Bynes sued Drake for murdering her vagina.

Wouldn't you have to prove a soul exists, then establish a value to one?

Seems a high legal hurdle to get over.

I took this way more seriously than it deserved.

Here lies the body of Mary Lee
Died at the age of a hundred and three
For fifteen years she kept her virginity
Not a bad record for this vicinity.

They've been divorced for 12 years.  And she's coming after him NOW?

Unless he is showing up at her house and beating her and her children once a week, I don't see how this is even possible.

I know absolutely nothing about Mr. Harvey nor his ex-wife. All I do know is the painful lesson my own painful divorce taught me:

Truth does not produce the fiduciary rewards of fantasy.

Had a band where I nicknamed the guitar player the Soul Murderer.

Me (bass) the drummer and keyboard player would lock down on something and just groove during warmups.  Never, without fail, the guitar player would come in and try and find a spot to get his licks in and every damned time it was just horrendous.  Oh the dude could play Kansas tunes backwards and forwards and ran diminished scales all day long....but goddamned the guy couldn't find the groove with a flashlight and a map.

We did a gig and he couldn't make it.  Hired a sub.  During warm up the sub locked in and threw down something that sounded like it was lifted from a James Brown record that never got released.  Spent half the first set just jamming on that.  Later that night the bandleader approached me and said "I think I know what you're getting at now."

The Soul Murdered was fired shortly after.

Years later I walk into a bar and he's playing "Two Tickets To Paradise" and the first thing I think is "Well, at least he knows where his comfort zone is."  I swear that dude played nothing but Eddie Money, ELP, Skynyrd and Steve Miller tunes the whole night.

That dude would have been a perfect metal player.  There's nothing wrong with him, it was just a bad fit for the band.  He had the 1-3 white boy stomp down cold and the rest of the band was top-shelf for booty shaking funk.

Am I a bad person for wanting to see those particular crime scene photos?

Though I'm pretty sure she just wished for it to happen, rather than it actually taking place.

"Soul murder is achieved by a combination of torture, deprivation, and brainwashing." But that's not all she's suing over: The suit also lists child endangerment, torture, conspiracy against rights, breach of contract, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The supernatural-sounding term "soul murder" diminishes the credibility of the specific claims. It makes brainwashing and conspiracy against rights seem likely to be manifestations of the same paranoid delusion in which "soul murder" is a thing. The same claim with "intentional infliction of emotional distress" in place of "soul murder" would sound a lot better.

Okay *sigh*.  Just because I'm a psychiatrist, I have to weigh in here and say that "soul murder" was a term used by Freud, that was expanded upon by Dr. Leonard Shengold to describe a kind of child abuse (usually but not always incestuous) resulting in an adult patient's complete inability to experience joy.  This does not apply to spousal abuse, so the lady is misusing the term.

Now carry on as scheduled.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the charges might be a tad exaggerated.

Also I think it'll take more that $60 million to bring a dead soul back to life.
