Manchin voted to confirm Scott Pruitt to epa. He couldnt even give a solid answer on whether congress should be investigating the Trump administration.

Normally I believe in the maxim about perfect being the enemy of good, but Manchin is as useless as tits on a bull.

Same here.  I'm willing to overlook the occasional pro-business vote (but NOT pro-life votes or anti-LGBT/minority rights votes).  No one's perfect.  But at this point, replacing Manchin with a Republican, even a relatively derpy one, wouldn't really make a damn bit of difference.  There's no coming back from confirming Pruitt, IMO.

One of the biggest polluting coal barons in West Virginia, Jim Justice, is my Democratic governor," she explained. "That's another reason that I decided to run for office. Because he's my governor, he's blowing silica dust three miles from my house into my children's lungs. But he's a Democrat. He's a Democrat. But he's basically a Republican."

Do all Democrats have to play a zero-sum game?

I never understood why politicians are both so reluctant and so villified for changing their views. I'm not even 40 yet and my views have drastically changed over the last 20 or so years. It's part of being alive, part of being aware and connected with the world around you. As science or society presents more facts or theories I weigh that against my beliefs and determine weather or not I need to do some internal house cleaning.

For me this is the most amazing thing about science. It constantly challenges its self and constantly demands proof. Science is not afraid of admitting it is wrong because admitting you're wrong is the first step in self improvement. While I'm annoyed with a politician who changes their views weekly I have nothing but respect for those few and  far between individuals who can say "you know, 20 years ago I thought ____ and now I realize I was wrong."

The world is changing faster and faster requiring us all to be on our toes. Choices will be made over the next ten to twenty years that will have incredibly long-lasting effects not only on our society but the planet as well. Adapt or die.

Oh, puh-lease. Fossil fuels aren't the only work available,  and you know that.

She's running a progressive campaign,  one that recognizes that the people of West Virginia need new,  different jobs in this new,  different world. Bernie's performance there tells us that people understand and want this change;  they want a representative who understands.

I had heard her before in progressive media. She's good news,  for the people of WV and for America.  She is what Brand New Congress is looking for:  A Real American.

No, but Manchin is an ass and doesn't support Democratic values in general. It makes sense to primary him at least. If the general comes down to him and a marginally worse R then so be it, but wanting to give D's in the state an option is not stupid or zero-sum.

Bernie's performance there tells us that West Virginia is so bass-ackwards that they would pick a Jewish man over a white woman, just as they would take a white woman over a black man when it was Clinton v. Obama in '08.

Trying to read anything more into it than that is folly; the majority of West Virginians simply don't have that level of foresight.

To all the Farkers that say good riddance to Manchin because of his pro-corporate votes and a few votes for The Donald's cabinet picks, re-think what his most important vote really is, his vote for Majority Leader. His votes are mostly symbolic and on their own wouldn't have changed the outcome of whatever measure was in front of him.

As a democrat living in rural PA, I'd gladly have a repub-lite dem instead of Toomey. 50 +1 is the goal here.

we have millions of years of adapting to change written into our DNA, we are the most successful evolutionary story on this planet and as far as we know now the universe. Yet there are always some of us who refuse to change. I've never been a "bad" person, not even by my current standards, but there is no way the 39 year old me would be happy still being the 19 year old me (though I'll take his pre-murdered by the military body). There is no reason change and improvement can't continue all through life. There is nothing wrong with admitting you were wrong.

I'm worried about her sinking a chance to retain a D seat (And thus votes for Speaker Pro Tempore and who is in charge of what commitees), but it sounds like she's well set up to win WV, especially the coal miner-oriented folk.

At the very least, if she shows a great showing but Machin just edges under, hopefully he'll retain his seat and move his positions somewhat closer to match the middle of his base.

You're making my point. Why bring up the governor at all? No one else did and she isn't running against him.

So rather than enjoying the backing of her party then working to bring about change from within she dropped a turd so incumbents in her own party won't support her.

That is what stupid people do.
