Back in my purple Haze days, blackberries or other berries of ones liking were a highly satisfying alternative to a bag of Doritos.

Baked kale chips (garlic, sea salt, whatever you like).

Fruit in a bowl (I may have invented this while high). Frozen berries, the more the better, sliced banana, and cold milk poured over it. The frozen berries make a fruity slush out of the milk. It's like a slightly healthier milkshake in a bowl.

Giardiniera - Italian pickled vegetables.

I make my own - get a big container of jalapeno slices, use them on pizza and in scrambled eggs.  When you've got nothing but a few slices in the bottom and a whole lot of juice, then pack the jar with chopped green beans, cauliflower, thinly sliced carrots, and diced red bell peppers.  Add white vinegar to top it off if necessary.  Store in the refrigerator, shake well every day for a month.  Then enjoy.

Edamame. Love me some edamame. Just steam or boil and blanch and done.

At Glenndale Arena I did a flash pickle giardiniera for our hotdogs. Apple cider vinegar with a bit of salt and pepper corns and a flash boil and blanch of your vegetables, and then store them in sealed containers, and we constantly had giardiniera for our dogs and more. It's not hard, but damned if folks love some pickles with their meats.

Those can be good, but last summer I discovered something tastier during the annual zucchini glut.  If you slice them thin on a mandolin, shake a little Cajun spice on them, and put them in the dehydrator... they come out crispy and delicious, and best of all, they don't taste like zucchini.  Make some good hummus and you can make a meal of those things.

I'm with you on the edamame beans - I love to add some Tabasco to them myself. Give them a shake so that they're evenly coated.

Got this recipe off the web somewhere.
8 oz nut butter (I like almond butter but any will do)
~3 cups oatmeal
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup dark chocolate chips.
Mix together and roll into balls
(optional) sprinkle cocoa powder over balls.
I eat 2-3 of these and a glass of chocolate milk after a work out. Sometimes earning that is what gets me through the workout. Note: these are NOT low in calories.

I lost part of my thumb to a mandolin slicer so I'm still wary around them (and don't have feeling in the top of my thumb).

I have pics if anyone wants to see!

Harsh. I friend of mine had his thumb ripped off by a backhoe.  Took the tendons all the way up to his shoulder out.

I'll never forget that day. As I am sure he won't.

I lost the tip of a thumb (the tiny part that sticks out past the end of the fingernail) while slicing potatoes with a dull (serrated) knife.

// it grew back (thanks to a biomatric material) but the fingerprint there is wonky and it feels tougher than the rest of the skin.

// I use REALLY SHARP knives now.

Holy shiat. Yeah, mine bled for a long while and my thumbprint will never be the same (laughs criminally maniacal laugh), but it wasn't too serious. I feel like a wimp even having it compared to getting a thumb ripped off by a piece of heavy machinery.

Pork rinds dipped in guac.

For those of us who don't eat carbs, this is a great snack. Plus, on a ketogenic diet, you need the sodium and potassium since you don't retain fluid.

All good dude. I cut the end of my finger off my left index chopping onions. It hurt more then the time I had my right ring finger cut off and reattached.  Lots of nerves in the finger tips.

In *Merica* ?! Go and join al qaeda!

Then again, maybe drink a liter or two of water or unsweetened iced tea, then see if you're still thirsty?  Works for me...

Ha. I hear ya. I'm surprised I like them but pour enough garlic and salt on something and I'll probably eat it.

I also make my own potato chips and finish them in butter, so I'm not pure evil.

That's kind of what mine. A bit further down, though. I have the same tough, nearly numb skin.

I decided this morning that it's time to take my knives to the sharpener guy. Had to push on a bell pepper and almost slipped.
