Aaaand the interstate just collapsed.

2017-03-30 07:10:36 PM

Tom_Slick: Well my commute is screwed for the next year or more.

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear that. My little 100k city had a collapse in 1999 that farked traffic for months, I can't imagine this on that highway in your city.

The good news is no one was killed as far as we know at this point. No fire fighters were hurt when it collapsed.

Luckily I'm on the west side of town and just have to drive up 120.  Where are you?

It looks like it was a storage area under the interstate for pvc conduit spools. One of those caught fire and it essentially turned into an inferno.

2017-03-30 07:29:42 PM
So I take it our infrastructure is still good, right? Cool. Let's spend money on another jet fighter.

400 corridor my office is in Alpharetta but I have to go to our other office off of 17th street 3 days a week. I'm a new hire trainer I split my time.

Holy smoke!

Literally.

That's....not a good place to have this happen, if I recall.

2017-03-30 07:35:03 PM
Sorry Falcons, imma let you finish but I-85 had the best collapse of all time.

Good one, subby!

2017-03-30 07:35:22 PM
Hurrah, hurrah, we bring the Jubilee
Hurrah, hurrah, collapsing all the streets...

2017-03-30 07:35:25 PM
Now we turn to Jake and Flesh...

Good thing steel doesn't melt.

Or a lot of people would be sh*t out of luck right now.

2017-03-30 07:36:24 PM
So I-85 is a metaphor of Atlanta in the 4th quarter of the Superbowl.

2017-03-30 07:36:28 PM
Quiet you.

2017-03-30 07:37:10 PM
Huh.  I-85 overpass collapse causes spontaneous REM video.

FALSE FLAG!

Gas fires can't melt steel beams!

2017-03-30 07:38:18 PM
Maybe the $1 trillion Trump is pushing for infrastructure can go toward upgrading all our bridges to fire-rated ones made out of asbestos.

2017-03-30 07:38:32 PM
but I was told fire doesn't get hot enough to melt steel beams!

Working as an IT consultant, I travel all over the city from my Kennesaw office. I might have to reschedule all of next weeks appointments because of this now.

FleshMonkey: Can someone explain the headline?

Sherman's march to the sea took him through Atlanta, which he burned.

How could that be obscure?

2017-03-30 07:39:14 PM
If Sherman was to come back we won't let him stop at Georgia.

2017-03-30 07:39:15 PM
I can't imagine how badly this is going to fark up Atlanta traffic for the next few years.

Set the WABAC machine for 1864.

Sherman didn't burn up to Atlanta, he burned the warehouses when he left.

Obviously, a Trump brand overpass would not have collapsed like that. Sad!

or passports that somehow find there way to the street, to be picked up and turned in by a 30 year old in a  business suite.

WeedBong420: Do they know the cause?

It started in a storage area for spools of PVC conduit. Not sure of the cause but dozens of spools of PVC fed the flames like an oil tanker.

2017-03-30 07:43:25 PM
So is this the junk that burned?

For non-locals. This section of highway is actually very impressive. I can neither confirm nor deny that I've modeled traffic for this particular area. (I'm not an engineer. Let's make that VERY clear.)

If you're interested in this highway (and you should be) here's a link:

Link

(It's like a pretty sweet race track, all around Atlanta.)

How many vehicles does that stretch of interstate serve on a daily basis?

/my rough estimate is a shiatload.
