sure they are... just let me know when they can play AAA titles with the same graphics intensity as a desktop system with an RX480 or better and we'll talk.

Really? You can type over 100 wpm on a smartphone?

I'll give up a computer as my primary workplace when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Sell me a subscription based service where I can get new video or theatrical releases and I won't even care.

Speaking of locking down computers. Samsung got a app for the next Windows update(flow) that will unlock lock your PC with your SG7 phone's finger print reader. Window's next update will also let will lock your PC when your phone(any phone with blue tooth) is out of blue tooth range.

T-Mobile and At&t do have movie promotions. I think they're BOGO.

I was forced last week to install a new version of our engineering software. It was mostly designed in mid 70's to early 80's. It claims to have been redesigned for windows 95 and built up on that. I know better. It still spits out calculations to a text file and parses said file for the GUI.

I have fought with it since to get it just because I show data properly in a 1-line on the screen.

I tried using a competitors package that would probably work on a tablet. It was awful.

My desktop will be pried away from my cold dead hands.

/if anyone cares, the obscure software I use is SKM's PowerTools.

//end rant

Just got a 480 for Xmas.  The power consumption has definitely gotten better.

It`s because of the war on general purpose computers. Been coming for a while, we have been warned for years.

Yeah, and expect another article on why "in the future" we'll be doing everything on tablets and mobile devices (or computers locked down and dumbed-down to that level) every couple of years for the next century.

I know a lot of companies would LOVE to make desktops as restricted and limited as a mobile device. . .but that's just plain not going to happen.

My workplace thought it would be really good to give new employees a tablet computer instead of a desktop or laptop. . .that dismal experiment lasted only a few months, with the unfortunate tablet recipients hating them.  I'm one of those guys, they gave me a tablet instead of a full computer for my job, and it makes things so much more a Pain In The Ass.  The only reason I still have it is that IT doesn't want to junk all those tablets they just bought, so they are waiting on scheduled End of Life on all of them before replacing them, admitting that nobody likes them and they will never get more of them.

Can you run Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Excel, and other programs that people have to use for their paid jobs?  I like the idea of a small, powerful computer that you can put it a docking station and use as if it were your real "work computer", but are we there yet?

Yeah, 8GB one here too.  I hadn't followed card progress much since my last rig build, but my wife found the price/performance edge all by herself.  I was stoked

Well seeing as how you can build your own computer I highly doubt it.
