(The Stack)   Since it turns out that CSI folk can't actually zoom into an eyelash from a 240p video surveillance camera, Google decides to fill in the missing pieces with AI   (thestack.com) divider line

The courts will love this, just like repressed memories, lie detectors, and eyewitness testimony.

Do they still have those CSI black light semen detectors though, and could they say, see that someone has been habitually masturbating to the point where their ceiling though it appears stuccoed, is actually covered with Guygurted, making the ceiling a vast array of tiny sperm stalactites?

I'm asking on behalf of a friend's second cousin twice removed, you wouldn't know him.  Hell I don't know him.

Try zoom AND enhance, then.

Bad example, but your point is well taken.

It only works if you accompany the zoom/enhance with much clicking and clacking of keys.

Also not true despite what the NCIS would have you believe:  There are no 60 year old Goths.

I thought it sounded more like jacking a round into an M-16.

Have you tried going to a goth night at a club in the last decade?
I'm pretty sure there are ONLY 60 year old goths.

I love that one in spy movies. It's like seeing a landmark from your hometown in a movie.

Hmm...  I couldn't see a meaningful difference between Google's RAISR method and any of the others.  The philosophical question regarding cameras filling in data on its own is certainly interesting...  but certainly no practical worries for anyone as of yet.

Would this work to increase the resolution on old video, bringing programs up to 4k or even 8k cheaply?

This.  It will have zero evidentiary value.
