Allow me to ruin every future beach stroll you may take along Virginia Beach.

Trust me, if I'm ever stuck in Virginia, the day is already ruined.

I like how TFA comments toward the end it "eats fish alive."

Yeah, so does most every other ocean-based carnivore. I've never once seen a fish dress and clean another fish, then grill him up before dinner.

Not only are they equipped with large, venomous spines near their gills and above their pectoral fins, but they can also generate painful, 50-volt-equivalent electric shocks.

Not Australia? huh.

Stargazers?

One of 'em works for us in our planetarium...  James, the guy on the right.  I'll have to ask him about his fish eating preferences...

Their secondary gland creates an electric which makes them a serious predator.

Does it also the whole thing?

Mostly harmless.

It's not exactly a stone fish, blue ringed octopus or box jellyfish.

He's fairly short, so it could be that he is standing on something.

Summer sand can be blistering hot. A barefoot walk may sound nice but be real, anyone who has been to the shore before is wearing clogs, flip flops or sandals.

abhorrent1: Not only are they equipped with large, venomous spines near their gills and above their pectoral fins, but they can also generate painful, 50-volt-equivalent electric shocks.

WTF does 50-volt-equivalent mean?  If it is some sort of RMS, it is just volts.  If it is DC it is certainly volts.  If they are comparing it to 50V in dry conditions (while the fish produces something like 30V in saltwater), they are in the "barely notice" range, where you need to whip out a voltmeter to check that you are indeed touching a live circuit.

/note that anything over 28VDC/24VAC is not necessarily safe and should only monkeyed with if you know what you are doing.
//if you don't know, it is more
///just leave electricity alone already

Maybe the devil fish is trying to evolve and start to wreck mayhem on land now that they've conquered the sea...

The Stargazer Project is a joint NOAA/VDGIF endeavor designed to clean up the beaches. Stargazers can eat twice their body weight in syringes, diapers, toddlers, high schoolers and the occasional wino....in a single day. Not to worry, this'll be successful like the Kudzu plantings!
