A younger and more corrupt version of Bernie Sanders.

"theft in office based on the use of a city dumpster"

If that's not a Group W benching, I don't know what is.

Upon further reading, if he did absolutely everything he is accused of, it is a giant so what to me.

As a resident of a town with a population less than 3000, rules are pretty much guidelines.  People surf the edges of them and nearly everyone wants it that way.  It cuts down on bureaucratic silliness.

Enough people were pissed at this guy that they'll spend money in excess of 50x what his alleged crimes may have cost.

He's a "nationally known comedian"?

I'm going to go with the mayor on this one.  A key sign of a bullshiat indictment is overcharging.

This is textbook overcharging: "An affidavit with the warrant stated that investigators were seeking evidence related to the $500 rebate, along with evidence that Hastings disposed of personal items in a city dumpster, citing city workers as witnesses."

They are arresting him, in part, for throwing away personal trash in the office trash dumpster?  Really?

If I was on a jury I would vote for throwing the whole case out on general principles.

so he told a contractor to use a city dumpster and possibly might have taken a $500 refund he shouldn't have ?

I guess that town really really loved their fire house.

There's a name I hadn't heard in a while.  Used to hear him on one of the Sirius comedy channels a lot.  Funny guy:

I cannot fathom a more appropriate image for that GIS.  Very nice.

He's indicted on third, fourth, and fifth degree felonies.  How high do they go?  Is there a sixth degree felony?  If so, does it have anything to do with Kevin Bacon?

Very interesting read. It seems he made plenty of enemies just by winning the election. Betty Bishop (the old Mayor) is one of the principal players in this mess. It seems she used her son in his capacity as a LEO to further her goals at ousting him.

The match that really got the fire going seems to be his closing of the local fire station.

It seems he kind of wandered into a somebodies fiefdom and began to dismantle it. I wonder how much he was aware of before he began to bulldoze.

Strange scientists hiding in dumpsters distributing advice is no basis for a system of government.

It's the dumpsters that drive them.

I think the higher the degree, the lesser the severity of the offense. 6th degree is like taking a dump in someone's shoe, and 7th degree is not obeying the Dewey Decimal System.

Maybe just fine him $500 and make him pick up the garbage? Somehow I see this case going to appeals.

Nah, I think if it's a jury trial, the jury will probably acquit.  Juries tend to hate overcharging.  I remember a case where one of the charges was sending a personal fax from the office fax machine.  The jury sounded personally offended when interviewed afterwards (after voting to acquit).

Small Town Judge: Hi, Bill!
Small Town Mayor: How is my Sister?
Small Town Judge: How is mine?

You see, the petit bourgeoisie in the country is all cousins to each other because of fewer choices of mates and centuries of inbreeding. The Sheriff is his own Granpa.

Drat that brain worm!

I'd say it is kind of the opposite of golf:
The lower the number the worse.
The higher the number the more frightening.
